Author Interview w/ Alyson Burdette

Alyson Burdette currently lives in the small town of Wadsworth, Ohio. She graduated from The University of Akron, where she majored in Anthropology. She currently works at a pharmacy and loves animals and anything paranormal. When she’s not writing, she spends her time on reading, photography, hiking, and dancing.

Where to Find Alyson:

TheBookQueen: Hi Alyson! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Alyson: Hi there! I write paranormal romance and never know how to answer this question! I love animals (especially cats & horses) and reading and I live in a small town in Ohio.

TBQ: What made you start writing?
A: I’ve been writing since I was a kid. We had a project in 4th grade where we had to write and illustrate our own book. Most of the kids in the class turned in 1-2 page stories. Mine was 28 double sided pages. My poor teacher had to edit it down to ten sentences!

TBQ: Your debut book, Nightfire, will be out this month—Congrats! Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why your readers are going to love it?
A: Thanks! Nightfire is a paranormal romance about a vampire named Olivia. She ends up falling for a guy named William, who unknowingly complicates her existence.

TBQ: Are there other genres you would like to write about?
A: I’d love to try my hand at horror someday.

TBQ: I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. : ) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors.
A: I love J.K Rowling and Anne Rice. My all-time-favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. [All great choices! :) ]

TBQ: Have you ever fallen for a hero, either from one of your books or from another author? If so, who is he and what drew you to him?
A: I fall for imaginary men all the time. ;)  Most recently would be Ky from Allie Condie’s book Matched. There was just something sweet and irresistible about him. [One of the many books in my pile to read--will have to get to it soon! :)]

TBQ: What’s next—Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?
A: I’m working on writing the sequel to Nightfire, as well as a couple of other projects.

SPEED ROUND:

A day on a secluded island or a day at the spa?
Secluded Island.

Reading a spicy romance novel or OR a sweet “my-heart-skips-a-beat” one?
The sweet one. I’m a sucker for romance.

Which would you rather have an affair with: a sexy highlander OR a devilishly handsome English lord?
A sexy highlander. [Yet another kilt-lover to add to the list...Muhaha, we'll take over the world, I tell you!]

Hot summer days or cold winter nights?
Hot summer days. I hate the cold.

Where would your dream house be: in the city, where all the action is OR nestled in the mountain where you can enjoy the quiet and the wilderness?
Nestled in the mountains. I love being in nature.

If you could live in any time period, past or future, which one would it be?
I think the sixties would have been a lot of fun to live through. [Totally... :)]

Cover Lover OR Blurb Fan?
Cover Lover.

Steamy Novella OR Sweet Novel? (aka, Quickie or Slow Build Up?)
Sweet Novel.

And finally, tell us 3 unique/wacky/fun things about yourself:

Hmm… my fingers are double jointed, I tend to assume everyone’s a good person, and I’ll never get used to writing about myself in the third person.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Alyson, and please know that you are welcome back anytime! Do you have any questions for our readers-something to spark a good discussion? : )

Thanks for having me!
I’d love to know what you are looking for in the books you read? What makes you pick certain books up?

Nightfire by Alyson Burdette
Publisher: Musa Publishing (May 4th, 2012)
Genre: Paranormal/Fantasy
When a murder shakes the small town of Peninsula, all eyes are on Olivia Townsend. She may look eighteen, but the townspeople can sense there’s something darker hiding behind her pretty eyes. Olivia knows the smart thing to do is to get out of town. Suspicious neighbors can only mean trouble for a vampire. But leaving becomes much more difficult when William, a mysterious man from her past, arrives in Peninsula. Finding out what brought him back is a temptation Olivia just can’t resist. William’s kindness and interest in Olivia only makes leaving harder. As she starts to fall for him, she’s forced to decide if sticking around is really worth the risk of being discovered. Of course, her mystery man has a secret of his own-and he’s not talking.

Thanks so much for stopping by, Alyson--- I enjoyed having you on the blog! :)

I'll start out the discussion, shall I?

To be honest, I do look at covers first, but they are not the only thing, and I have learned that sometimes a great book can be hiding behind a not-so great cover. :)

As far as the story itself goes, I'm always looking for something that either sounds new or interesting, and if it's got shifters or Highlanders in it, I'm almost always in, regardless of anything else about the book. :)
What about you? Tell us what you look for when you pick a book!

Enjoy!

It's interesting you fell for Ky from Allie Condie's Matched. I'm from Utah (home of Allie Condie) where her inspiriation comes from. I guess there are lots of guys here that could send the heart to flitter and flutter.
