Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway w/ Jessica E. Subject!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, JESSICA! :)

Jessica Subject started writing to encourage her daughter to read. Now she writes to keep herself grounded. Although she reads many genres, she enjoys writing Science Fiction Romance the most and believes everyone in the universe deserves a happily ever after. She lives Southwestern Ontario, Canada with her husband and two kids and loves to hear from anyone who has enjoyed her stories.

Writing Ménages

Unlike the other two ménage stories I’ve written, The Power of Three involves a ménage-a-trois that only lasts one night. When Oscar is freed from the gargoyle statues he was cursed to reside in, he hopes the young couple who set him free are willing to try something new to send him back to his world and his lovers.

The tricky part about writing this type of ménage is finding a reason for the characters to agree to inviting another person into their bed. The couple, Bo and Delayna, have been together for a few years, and have a very satisfying sex life, as Oscar has been witness to. Why would they want to involve another person who could possibly change the entire dynamic of their relationship? While Delayna has always fantasized about a threesome with her husband and another man, Bo is not so keen to share his wife or have any guy touching him.

The solution? The couple has a secret. Delayna fulfilled a fantasy for Bo earlier in their marriage. What was it? Well, that’s another story. But, seeing Delayna’s desire, and unable to explain how the strange man suddenly appeared in their bedroom, Bo decides to fulfill his wife’s fantasy. He does have some ground rules though. He does not want the interaction taped, or talked about after the night is over. Bo tells Oscar that if they are not able to send him home, he must leave anyway, and never return. And under no circumstances can anyone touch Bo’s backside.

Well, with those being his only rules, there is a lot of fun to have between this threesome, and they do indeed.

Tell me, what complication do you think can arise in a ménage-a-trois?
Thank you so much, TBQ, for hosting me on your blog today!

The Power of Three by Jessica E. Subject
Excerpt

“I’m from Wigbay,” [Oscar] stated. “I’m not sure how to explain where that is except to say, it’s in another dimension. I was sent here, trapped as a spirit inside your gargoyle statues when I refused to take on another female lover.”

On the day he’d been sucked away from his life partners, Catalis had arrived at his shared home, shouting curses and calling him out for not taking her as his mate. Against their advice, he left Lianna and Lewis on the love platform, anxious to dispose of their unwelcome visitor. But she had other ideas.

When he met her outdoors, she waved her arms in wide circles, uttering an ancient chant. Her malicious words drew the air around them into a swirling mass. Without the combined power of his mates, he was weak to stop her. Catalis used an energy field to bind him then tossed him into the center of the twister. Lianna and Lewis raced out the door and launched themselves onto the sorceress, but they were too late.

“You were in our statues?”

Oscar blinked hard, returning his attention to his hosts.

Bo’s eyes grew wide, his face a mess of contradictory emotions.

“Another lover?” Delayna asked.

“I’ve been able to move amongst the gargoyles you own for the past year. It feels like forever since I’ve seen Lianna and Lewis—my mates, my lovers.” A wave of sorrow threatened to wash over him, but one glimpse of the sparkle in her eyes brought back his immediate need.

“You’ve been spying on us for a year?” Bo turned to his wife. “I don’t believe this shit about being trapped, but there could be hidden cameras in your statues. I swear, Delayna. I’m throwing every single one of them away as soon as we get this whackjob out of the house.”

“Please, Bo.” She whispered something in his ear and he smiled until he caught Oscar looking at him.

Bo stood up, letting the pillow fall to the floor. “Like what you see?”

I think jealousy could be a big factor when there are 3 people in a relationship. It could be very difficult to maintain an equal balance.

Thank you so much for having me! It's very important to have just the right dynamic when writing a menage. All the best! :)

Yes, that is a big factor, Mary. Thank! :)

Jessica E. Subject said...

I'm sure there are many if the dynamics aren't established beforehand. Thanks! :)

It's a powerful fantasy (especially m/m/f), but I'm sure jealousy can be a big problem. Also, if a pregnancy occurred, that could complicate things a lot.

Nice!!
The most common conflict to arise in a menage is jealousy. And if feelings get involved one could feel like their being cheated on..

Yes, pregnancy could cause a problem for sure. Thanks for stopping by! :)

That's very true, Chynarey. Thank you! :)

You know, I'll admit it, I've never read a menage. But I could see where jealousy could come into play. Especially if the couple has love for each other, like in your book. It would be kind of hard to keep it out. I've always been interested in three parter romances, how they make it work, etc. I'm looking forward to trying your book!

WELL...Bo is just missing out on some of the fun, isn't he?? I have certainly never written and have read very few menages. That said, I can see a lot of difficulties....like what goes where, when (LOL). I can also see complications when a third party is brought into an existing relationship. What if one of the individuals falls for the new person on the scene?

One problem they could arise is that one person on the group Msg begin to feel left out.

Jessica E. Subject said...

Thank you very much, Chelsea! Yes, I think a menage would be harder when two of the three have an already established relationship before they bring someone else into it.

Jessica E. Subject said...

Yes, it could cause problems in an already established relationship. As for the what goes where, well that's not as much of an issue in the passion of the moment. Though it is as a writer. :)

Jessica E. Subject said...

Yes, Vanessa, if one feels left out, then the dynamic is gone. Thanks! :)

I think with a menage with 2 men and one women it would be easier to make sure everyone was satisfied than with 2 women and one man, I also think jealousy would be hard to fight. thanks Jessica.

I agree, Carin. Two men and one woman seem to fit together better. LOL But jealousy would exist, for sure. Thanks! :)
