[Kame's Review]: "No Flowers Required"

No Flowers Required by Cari Quinn
Publisher: Entangled Publishing (Brazen) (August 22, 2012)
Series: Love Required, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

He’ll give her everything she desires...except his identity.

Flower shop owner Alexa Conroy had it all before the recession hit and her customers fled to cheaper shopping grounds. Desperate to make ends meet, she sells her dream home and moves into the rundown apartments above her shop. When she spots six feet of sexy distraction—complete with muscles, piercings, and tattoos—ripping up flooring, Alexa knows the karmic windfall she’s due just landed on her doorstep.

And the attraction’s definitely not one-sided.

Dillon James, reluctant heir to the corporation about to foreclose on Alexa’s shop, is not about to jeopardize their scorching chemistry by admitting he’s not the building’s handyman. But with only weeks until her business goes under and his identity is revealed, Dillon must find a way to convince Alexa cooperation isn’t a dirty word, help her save the shop from his brother’s greed, and persuade her that he’s not the enemy...or risk losing the only woman who’s seen the real him.

Kame's Review:

“His eyes were blue, she noted a little dizzily. This close they were the shade of the center of an anemone. The color fanned out from his pupils and got lighter at the edges…”

I love flowers and puttering outside in my garden is a favorite way to get my mind back on track.  I also am a sap for stories where assumptions are made about a character and that character turns out to be so much more than the first impressions people have made.  When I read the premise for this book I knew it was something I would really enjoy.

Alexa Conroy owns a flower shop.  It is a flower shop she inherited from a friend, and the flower shop is in serious financial trouble.  For this reason Alexa sold her dream home and is moving into the studio apartment over her flower shop.  Divine Flowers specializes in high end arrangements and quality.  Something her competitor down the street, Value Hardware does not.  On move in day she encounters a problem with her apartment’s sink, and is lucky enough to find the building handyman to ask him to fix it.

Quinn James is not just the building handyman, he owns the building, and is part of the family that owns Value Hardware. He keeps this information from Alexa though as he is intrigued by her.  When Quinn is ready to tell Alexa his real identity two things happen. First Alexa shares with Quinn her loathing for Value Hardware, and second they share an amazing kiss before he can.  No way is he telling her now. Quinn and Alexa have instant chemistry that was very believable.

I really liked both characters, they are multifaceted. Alexa seems fancy and proper on the outside, but has a tattoo in a location that drives Quinn wild. Quinn comes from an affluent family but thoroughly enjoys volunteering with the family charity rehabbing houses,  is interested in green roofs, solar energy and does the handyman work on his properties, all while organizing the finer details of his family’s annual charity event.  The auxiliary characters enhance the story, I love Nellie – Alexa’s sister-in-law and her brother Jake is very protective.  Quinn’s brother Corey’s character just screams for someone to love him – hopefully in book 3!

I was given a copy of this book by the author for my honest review. I am so happy I received the opportunity, as I really enjoyed the book. It is the second in a series – and reads wonderfully as a stand-alone book – I am going back to read her first and I will anxiously await book 3!

 4 STARS!

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
