Interview with Candace Knoebel!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, CANDACE! :)

Candace Knoebel had dreamed of being a dancer ever since she could remember. With a love of all things art, she saw herself moving to New York and pursuing her passion as an artist. But all that changed on October 10th, 2002 when she met the love of her life. Her dreams diverged and after marrying her high school sweetheart and having two beautiful children, she realized she missed her creative side.

Growing up alongside the Harry Potter series, Candace found herself missing the epicosity of a story that pulls you in and won’t let you go. In 2009, she began dreaming up characters that would mold her first novel. Through lunch breaks and late nights, after putting her kids to bed, she built a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. She found her calling in life and knew this was more than dancing could’ve ever meant to her.

Once complete in 2010, she began the grueling process of finding a publisher. With relentless determination, she was finally able to realize her dream in December of 2011 when 48fourteen offered her a publishing contract. With a HUGE yes and a happy dance, she now continues her Trilogy.

Where to Find Candace:

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

The_Book_Queen: Hi Candace! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Candace: I am a stay-at-home mom to two little ones-Logan (my six-year-old) and Scarlett (my two-year-old). They make the world go round. J I love music, art, dancing, laughing, good food, scary movies, midnight premiers, lace, Pinterest, Tobuscus, 30 Seconds to Mars…typical normal stuff I suppose. Oh, and I own a pair of Heely’s that I love to roll around in and have a fetish with dying my hair. That’s me in a nutshell, hehe.

TBQ: If you couldn't write, what would you do?

C: I don’t really know…probably feel lost and unhappy. This is something that I couldn’t imagine not doing. I paint and create things on the side, which I love doing, but it doesn’t fulfill me the way writing does. I’d probably still be stuck in my day job.

TBQ: Your newest release, Born in Flames kicks off a trilogy. Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?

C: Of course I can! Born in Flames is a fast-paced fantasy that will catapult you into a world where you race against time to save the fate of two realms and an impending prophecy promising death. Aurora Megalos is the main character who discovers that she is not only a part of this prophecy, but part dragon as well. It is the beginning chapter of her journey to becoming the Progeny and fulfilling her destiny of defeating an ultimate evil.

TBQ: I cannot wait to start this trilogy, it sounds great--and the cover! Love it! :) Are there other genres you would like to write about?

C: Since I am currently finishing the third book in this trilogy, I have begun to dabble in other projects. I completed NaNo in 2012 with a different story which could be labeled as paranormal romance. But as far as giving up the fantasy and magic elements, I’m not sure I’m finished with the fantasy/paranormal genre so I would have to say not yet. J

TBQ: No complaints from me, I'm always up for a good fantasy/paranormal anyway! :) I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. :) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors?

C: There are tons that I love, but the ones that stand out and have made an impact on my life are: J.K. Rowling, Stephanie Meyers, J.R. Ward, Holly Black, Charlotte Bronte, … it could go on for a while.

TBQ: All such wonderful authors! We've all fallen for a hero (or two, or three, or....ahem).  Tell us one hero that you've fallen for—who is he and what drew you to him?
C: I really love Peeta in the Hunger Games trilogy. He’s sweet, kind-hearted, brave, selfless, everything Katniss wasn’t. And I have a weakness for the nerdy type. He tried so hard to be there for her, no matter how she treated him. I know that some say he is “soft”, but if I was stuck in a world like that where everyone is out for themselves, he is someone I would be more than grateful for.

TBQ: *nods* I have to agree with you there! What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?

C: Absolutely. Embracing the Flames, which is the second in the trilogy is currently in it’s last round of editing with my publisher. The cover is also nearly complete, so I’m hoping the release date will be near summer. My WIP is, From the Embers, which is the final chapter in the trilogy. It’s almost complete and then it will be given my read-through and then sent to my publisher!

Born in Flames by Candace Knoebel
Publisher: 48fourteen (September 5, 2012)
Series: Born in Flames Trilogy, 1
Genre: Urban Fantasy

Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.

Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. Having no memories of the time before she awoke on her foster mother’s doorstep, she yearns for the emptiness inside her to be filled. With her fellow orphaned best friend, Fenn, by her side, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But something powerful stirred within her that she couldn’t explain. Something wanted out.

In the dark of night, a crazed Seer, dubbed Mr.Creepy, erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?
