Blog Tour: Interview with Robyn DeHart!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, ROBYN! :)

A life-long love of stories and adventure, it was either become a stuntwoman for the movies or live out those adventures from the safety of her PJ's and computer. Award-winning author, Robyn DeHart chose the latter and couldn't be happier for doing so. Known for her unique plotlines and authentic characters, Robyn is a favorite among readers and reviewers. Publishers' Weekly claims her writing to be "comical and sexy" while the Chicago Tribune dubs her "wonderfully entertaining." Robyn is an award-winning author as well as being a four-time RT Bookclub Reviewers' Choice award nominee, and a three-time RomCon Reader's Crown nominee. Robyn lives in Texas with her brainy husband, two precocious little girls and two spoiled cats. You can find Robyn on-line at her website or at one of her group blogs, the Jaunty Quills or Peanut Butter on the Keyboard.

Where to Find Robyn:

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

The_Book_Queen: Hi Robyn! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Robyn: Well, I’m married to a wonderful man whom most know on-line as The Professor. He’s a college professor, teaches political science and he’s wicked smart. We became parents through the miracle of fost-adoption and know have 2 ridiculously cute little girls that keep us on our toes. I’m a Texan, born and bred, which means I love Country music, Tex-Mex and lots of air conditioning. I have a degree in Sociology, have worked a myriad of jobs before getting married and getting to write full-time – though now, admittedly I’m a mom full-time and the writing fills in the gaps. J

TBQ: Ah, sounds like the perfect life--a great family and loving husband, not to mention doing what you love (writing). :)

Your newest release, The Secrets of Mia Danvers came out last week.  Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?

R: Wow, you really discourage cheating. Okay so here’s how I set-up the book in the synopsis.

In the fall of 1888 a murderer terrorized the Whitechapel area in London, horribly mutilating prostitutes and leaving their blood-drenched bodies out to be found, taunting the police and paralyzing the poverty-stricken people with fear. In taunting letters to the police and the newspapers, he called himself Jack the Ripper. Then as quickly as he appeared, he vanished from the news, his reign of terror apparently at an end. Six months later another girl's body was found, but this time in prestigious Mayfair, and this time there was a witness.

TBQ: ;) I'm tough, I know. LOL.

Why do Alex and Mia belong together?

R: I think like any good couple, they belong together because they bring out the best in each other. Mia shows Alex that fighting for what’s right is more important than doing things the way he’s “supposed” to. And when Alex shows up in Mia’s life, she’s reminded that it’s okay that she wants what other women have, it’s okay to want love and marriage and a family and she deserves all of those things.

TBQ: *happy sigh* Yep, it does sound like they're perfect for each other!

When writing each novel, do you listen to certain songs, like a playlist for the story? If so, what was the playlist for TSoMD?

R: Okay remember when I said I like country music? So the song that became like Mia’s anthem was Thompson Square’s “Are You Going to Kiss Me or Not?” That being said I tend to write more to movie soundtracks and I listened to The Wolfman and Jane Eyre a lot writing this book.

TBQ: Oh, what a fun song for Mia!

In 5 words or less, describe Mia for us. And let's not forget Alex—what's he like?

R: Oh, man, you ask hard questions. I think Mia embodies tenacity and grace with a heavy dose of sass. Alex, on the other hand, is all starch and propriety except when it comes to Mia and he embraces his passion and vulnerability.

TBQ: Don't you just love the stuffy hero who turns into a completely different man with the woman he loves? :)

Do you have a favorite part from TSoMD? (If spoilers are involved, you can be vague.)

R: Hmm… I like the scene where Alex does the scent experiment with Mia. And I loved the one where they dance in his study with no music.

TBQ: Now I'm intrigued! :)

I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. :) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors?

R: Favorite authors: Suzanne Enoch, Teresa Medeiros, Amanda Quick, Pamela Moris, JD Robb, Jim Butcher, Kristan Higgins and I could go on…

Favorite books: Harry Potter series, Hunger Games series and way too many romances to name

TBQ: Tons of great authors, and a few that are new to me, as well. Also: Yeah, another HP fan. :D

We've all fallen for a hero (or two, or three, or....ahem).  Tell us one hero that you've fallen for—who is he and what drew you to him?

R: Malone from Kirstan Higgins’ Catch of the Day. He made he all kinds of gooey! He’s just so stoic and masculine and wow.

TBQ: Ooh, must read that book then, thanks!

What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?

R: Well, the sequel to Mia Danvers, The Temptations of Anna Jacobs comes out in November and wait until y’all see the cover! It’s so pretty. Also in August the 3rd book in my Forbidden Love trilogy comes out, A Little Bit Scandalous. (Ooh, can't wait to see the cover for Anna's book!)

SPEED ROUND:

A day on a secluded island OR a day at the spa?
Island!

Reading a spicy romance novel OR a sweet “my-heart-skips-a-beat” one?
Heart-skips-a-beat (can I have that with a side of spice?) (Yes, of course!)

Which would you rather have an affair with: a sexy highlander OR a devilishly handsome English lord?
English lord, I’m a sucker for them.

Hot summer days OR cold winter nights?
I live in Texas so it must be those hot summer nights. (You can keep the heat!)

Where would your dream house be: in the city, where all the action is OR nestled in the mountain where you can enjoy the quiet and the wilderness?
In a quiet neighborhood just outside of the city so I can get to the action when I need to.

If you could live in any time period, past or future, which one would it be?
As much as I love history, I love modern conveniences even more so I’m going to have to go with the present.

Cover Lover OR Blurb Fan?
Cover!

Steamy Novella OR Sweet Novel? (aka, Quickie or Slow Build Up?)
Sweet novel

Quick—name the one food that you cannot live without?
Chips & queso!

And finally, tell us 3 unique/wacky/fun things about yourself:

  • My fingernails are always painted – right now they’re glittery purple
  • The only reason I’m not a crazy cat lady is because our two current cats don’t even like each other. (LOL!)
  • I met my husband on an on-line dating site! (That is so awesome!)

The_Book_Queen: Thanks so much for stopping by, Robyn,  and please know that you are welcome back anytime! Do you have any questions for our readers—something to spark a good discussion? :)

Robyn: Thanks so much for having me! I’d love to know from readers if they prefer their romance straight up or if they like adventurous or mystery or suspense subplots thrown in.

The Secrets of Mia Danvers by Robyn DeHart
Publisher: InterMix (June 18, 2013)
Series: Dangerous Liasons, 1
Genre: Historical Romance

A lone witness finds her protector…

Since losing her sight in a childhood accident, Mia Danvers has resided in a small cottage on the vast Carrington estate. Thought to be dead, Mia lives a life of virtual seclusion—until one night, while walking home, she happens upon a horrendous crime.

Alex Foster, Eighth Duke of Carrington, lives according to society’s expectations for him. He’s never met the woman who lives in the cottage at the edge of his property. But when she arrives at his door in the pouring rain terrified and claiming she has witnessed a murder, she seizes his attention.

Mia is determined to help the authorities track down the culprit, even though the only person willing to accept her aid is the handsome, arrogant duke. Working closely together proves difficult as Mia’s beauty and independence tempts Alex to ignore convention and follow his desire. But what neither of them know is that this murderer has struck before in Whitechapel, taunting the British press only to vanish—a ruthless killer who knows that Mia is the only living witness to his crime…

  5. Hi Robyn!

I can't believe it's been almost 8 years since I read Courting Claudia and fell in love with your stories!

The thing that keeps me coming back for more is that your stories contain all my favorite things in a book! A little bit of intrigue, suspense and romance tucked in between the covers in just the right blend!

  11. Thanks for the interview Danielle and Hi again Robyn! I love learning about my authors and especially finding know things to know about them! Wow, I didn't know some many people loved cats. But to answer your question I love my romance to have a bit of everything. They most definitely have to have adventure, mystery, action, and sub plots. But anything will work for me, you'll never know what you like until you try it.

  12. So glad to "meet" you, Danielle, on your blog. And Hello again, Robyn! As suspected, I found out a little bit more about you on this hop stop. That's what I love about blog hops. :-) I too, love chips with a dip, but since I'm lactose intolerant I have to go with salsa rather than queso. :-( And I'm jealous about your two cats...we lost our beloved Sammy three years ago and I want another orange cat so bad now I'm starting to look at ads for kittens...and the SPCA too. And thanks for the tip about Kristen's book Catch of the Day. I have several of her books, but not that one. Whatever you like I'm bound to like. And thanks again for your lovely, feisty writing. Love your stories! jdh2690@gmail.com
