[Musing Maddie's Review]: "The Shadow of Mudflap"

The Shadow of Mudflap by Christi Snow (and M.F. Smith)
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform (July 24, 2013)
Series: Foxtrot Team, 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Romantic Suspense)

To us, first responders are heroes. But for them, risking their lives is a normal, everyday thing.

Mudflap:
Born the baby of the family, Mudflap has always had something to prove to emerge out of the shadows of his older siblings. He spent eight years as a Special Ops elite sniper and is now a firefighter. But at his heart, he’s just a normal West Texas good old boy who loves his beer, women and football, until the Department of Defense calls him up to say they need his skills again.

Shanae:
Shanae is a first responder of a different sort. She’s a trauma nurse who works on a medical evacuation helicopter team. But while she lives a life full of adrenaline every day, it’s just a cover for her real life, where she hides in the shadows and is secret agent, Shadowfox for the Lubbock Foxtrot Team (LiFT). She’s living the kind of life that most people think exists only in movies and books.

Working for two different branches of the government, Mudflap and Shanae are in a race against time and the terrorists who threaten the very heart of West Texas life, football. They’re working toward the same goal, but find themselves in a confrontation against each other and the lies they’ve each had to hide behind. Can love win out in the end or will the cost be each other and their very lives?

First responders are heroes every day, but this story tells the tale of when they become even more and find love along the way. The key is for them to stay alive so that they can complete their mission and just maybe live happily ever after.

On an ordinary day, they save lives. On an extraordinary day, they save the country.

(All the proceeds from this novel will go to the Lubbock Red Cross.)

Musing Maddie's Review:

Another wonderful read by talented author Christi Snow. I loved The Shadow of Mudflap, and eagerly await future instalments. I was so pleased to be a part of something that this book has been fundraise for too. Congratulations M.F. Smith and Christi Snow for your admirable passion.

Mudflap was a wonderful Hero. Gorgeous, thoughtful, cocky, yet humble, he was easy to love. He struggled with guilt. It plagued him and contributed to self-doubt. Especially when confronted with keeping his brother out of harm's way. Especially when he'd found a woman to love; a woman who was also in danger.

Men served one purpose for tough-chick, Shanae. Previous hurt had paved each brick of the wall of safety surrounding her heart. Her job was dangerous. She was feisty, funny and lethal. After all, she was a spy!

She'd never had such a visceral response to a man before meeting Mudflap. He oozed testosterone and sexiness, that she found too hard to ignore. The connection she felt with him scared her, but also exhilarated her.

Christi Snow knows how to get your heart rate up. I love her writing. Not only does she cover serious, danger with appropriate, meticulous detail, but also with an intensity that keeps you captivated.

Her writing is intense, and it sizzles. Like this scene.

"He was thick and hard, stretching her just to the edge of pain as he thrust into her. Already her climax was so close. Several thrusts later, her internal muscles began to ripple and contract in growing ecstasy."

Just as beautifully, she sprinkles her work with humor, always at the right time to provide needed levity.

Written with alternating points of view, it was a wonderful way to stay close to the characters and their struggles, joys and hornyness!! (is that a word??)

There is something to be said for text messages in a novel. Snow uses them brilliantly to walk the reader through the burgeoning relationship of Mudflap & Shanae. The focus on Texas and their love of football, in the midst of a terrorist organisation which threatened the safety and security of college life in Lubbock, Texas, was skillfully juggled.

Mudflap was a great read from start to finish. It will keep you captivated if you enjoy a bit of spy/action/romance with strong characters, inspiring credible plot, and have a good sense of fun as well. I can't wait to see what this new writing duo create next.

 4 STARS!

Meet Musing Maddie:

Musing Maddie is an avid reader, who mainly devours all things romance. She loves series, but only when the story warrants a few books rather than one. A strong, intelligent female with a bit of sass and wit is the preferred heroine in the books she reads, and some sizzle between the sheets is welcome too. Well, ok...more than welcome! Well, not just between the sheets is just fine too! She’s from Down Under, so her humor is on the crazy side. Captivating storylines, with well developed plot and yes, hot, hunky Heroes, is definitely a preference, but she loves it when the characters are damaged, and their story brings hope and restoration. Yes please to HEAs!

  3. Great review, Maddie. And hello again to you, Christi. I like several things about this book of yours: The sexy hero and feisty heroine, the fact that the proceeds are being donated, and that you've brought it into the 21st century with texting, testosterone, Texas and...terrorism! Thanks for being on this post. jdh2690@gmail.com
