[Blog Tour]: Interview with Tessa Bailey + Giveaway!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, TESSA! :)

Tessa lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and young daughter. When she isn't writing or reading romance, Tessa enjoys a good argument and thirty-minute recipes.

Where to Find Tessa:

~ * ~ * ~ * ~ * ~

TheBookQueen: Hi Tessa! Sit down, get comfortable. Can I get you something to drink? Fair warning – those lemon cookies on the table are slightly addicting.

Tessa: *stuffs cookies into purse* Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here :)

TBQ: Alright, tell us a little bit about yourself!

T: I think about romance constantly and it’s a compulsion for me to write about it. For a long time, these long elaborate stories would play out in my head and I thought it was odd. Turns out, I was just a closeted writer. My heaven is eating Mexican food and talking about inappropriate topics with my friends.

TBQ: Your newest release, Unfixable, came out a few weeks ago. Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?

T: Willa is trying to escape from a bad break-up with a guy who didn’t truly understand her. She kind of lost herself in the process and when she meets Shane on a trip to Dublin, he basically reaches inside her and drags that inner confidence back out. It’s got humor and enough sexual tension to sink a ship :)

TBQ: Who can resist a good dose of sexual tension?!

Now Unfixable is a NA romance, where as your previous books were contemporary romance/erotica. So I have to ask – are there other genres you would like to write about? I'm sure no matter the genre, your heroes will always be dirty talkers. :D It just wouldn't be right otherwise!

T: At the moment, I’m really happy writing a mix of adult and new adult. I have a whole slew of adult coming out this year, then in March 2015 I’m kicking off a new adult series set in Manhattan. I’ve just finished the first book and rest assured, there will be quite a bit of dirty talk!

TBQ: That's all it takes -- I'm in! :)

Speaking of dirty talking heroes . . . You must search for inspirational man candy for all your books. Want to share any?

T: I spend an inappropriate amount of time on Pinterest, yes.

TBQ: Oh, Shane looks so broody and sexy . . . Sorry, I got distracted by sexy heroes and yummy man candy . . . Ahem, back to Unfixable. Why do Shane and Willa belong together?

T: In a lot of my books, the couples are opposites. One balances the other. In this book, Shane is almost Willa’s kindred spirit. They’re both quick to anger and have so much life inside of them. They’re both flawed. Throughout the book, they start to realize those flaws are beautiful and they don’t have to change to be happy. They learn to accept themselves.

TBQ: In 5 words or less, describe Willa for us. And let's not forget Shane—what's he like?

Willa: Stubborn, loyal, brave, honest, sarcastic
Shane: Thoughtful, stubborn, sexual, confident, prideful

TBQ: Yep, I think I'm falling for Shane more and more as this interview goes on!

Do you have a favorite part from Unfixable

T: There is a scene where Shane takes Willa to the beach and teaches her how to drive a stick shift. They’re speeding down the beach and she just starts to laugh, her hair whipping in the air. It’s a very freeing moment and something inside her changes after that. She let’s go of some guilt in that scene.

TBQ: When writing each novel, do you listen to certain songs, like a playlist for the story? If so, what was the playlist for Unfixable

T: Absolutely. It’s kind of crazy how the right songs find me when I need them.

TBQ: Oooh, I see some good songs and some that I'll be looking up on YouTube later. :D

I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. :) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors?

T: If I’m looking for a comfort read, I always reread Julie Garwood. I adore her – especially The Secret. Or any of her Scottish highlander books. Recently, I’ve loved Tara Sivec and the This Man series by Jodie Ellen Malpas. Hello, Jesse Ward.

TBQ: I can't resist a good Highlander romance, either.

We've all fallen for a hero (or two, or three, or....ahem). Tell us one hero that you've fallen for—who is he and what drew you to him?

T: My dream hero is Jericho Barrons from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. I love mysterious men who are hiding something fierce inside them.

TBQ: Oh, Barrons is definitely very . . . intense! But so sexy, I agree.

What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?

T: You can look for my next release on June 9th. I wrote a continuity with Katee Robert, Laura Kaye, Diane Albert and Samanthe Beck. We each wrote a book taking place at the wedding of the year. Here is the basic plot: gruff, damaged SWAT commander, Reed Lawson, meets people pleaser/sorority sister, Julie Piper. It’s hot, I can promise you that ;)

SPEED ROUND:

A day on a secluded island OR a day at the spa?
Day spa

Which would you rather have an affair with: a sexy highlander OR a devilishly handsome English lord?
Sexy highlander, no contest. [You are my new BFF!]

Hot summer days OR cold winter nights?
Hot summer days.

Where would your dream house be: in the city, where all the action is OR nestled in the mountain where you can enjoy the quiet and the wilderness?
I am a city girl to the bone.

If you could live in any time period, past or future, which one would it be?
I’d live in the present. I don’t want to live without my modern conveniences. Although I’d make a pit stop in the eighties.

Cover Lover OR Blurb Fan?
Cover Lover

Steamy Novella OR Sweet Novel? (aka, Quickie or Slow Build Up?)
Steamy, no question.

Quick—name the one food that you cannot live without?
Hummus

And finally, tell us 3 unique/wacky/fun things about yourself:

  • I browse for dresses online when I’m stressed out
  • I get my best ideas in the shower
  • My socks never match.

TheBookQueen:  Thanks so much for stopping by, Tessa, and please know that you are welcome back anytime!

Unfixable by Tessa Bailey
Publisher: Entangled: Embrace (April 14, 2014)
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

Willa Peet isn’t interested in love. She’s been there, done that, and has the shattered heart to prove it. Ready to shake the breakup, she heads to Dublin, Ireland. But there’s a problem. A dark-haired, blue-eyed problem with a bad attitude that rivals her own. And he’s not doling out friendly Irish welcomes.
Shane Claymore just wants to race. The death of his father forced him off the Formula One circuit, but he’s only staying in Dublin long enough to sell the Claymore Inn and get things in order for his mother and younger sister. He never expected the sarcastic American girl staying at the inn to make him question everything.

But even as Willa and Shane’s fiery natures draw them together, their pasts threaten to rip them apart. Can Shane give up racing to be with the woman he loves, or will Willa’s quest to resurrect the tough-talking, no-shit-taking girl she used to be destroy any hope of a future together?

I love Tessa Bailey's books! I was new to her books until earlier this year. As soon as I read the 1st Line of Duty novel, I hurried to 1-click the rest & then read them back to back! My favorite dirty talker of hers would be Brent Mason. He's my Book Boyfriend & so far, no one's been able to move him from that spot.
Great interview! Looking forward to her upcoming books & am intrigued by the book she's co-writing!
