[Pat's Review]: "Heat of the Moment"

Heat of the Moment by Robin Kaye
Publisher: InterMix (October 21, 2014)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Cameron O’Leary, a 4th generation firefighter turned arson investigator, thinks he’s the luckiest man in the world—after a year of sickness in the family, everyone’s finally on the mend, and his life can go back to its even keel. But even though Cameron has moved to Boston to be there for his family, some sort of live-in nurse is still necessary, given the demands of his job.

Erin Crosby is financing her master’s thesis in social work by acting as a home health care nurse. Working for Cameron seems like the perfect gig—low key, plenty of time to work on her thesis, and the patient is lovely. She might never have lived with a man before—she’s never found anyone she cared about that much, had barely even considered it—but Cameron is easy to live with, and an easy friendship blooms between them.

But it gets harder and harder for Cameron to keep his hands off of his charming employee—and for Erin to remember that she hasn’t really moved into Cameron’s life.

Pat's Review:

This delightful novella was a pleasure to read. The characters are real, funny and very entertaining.

Cameron O'Leary, arson investigator, is ready for some calm and quiet in his life. His seven almost eight year old daughter has spent the last two years fighting a brain tumor, and has just been declared healthy. He is looking for a nanny/tutor since she won't be able to return to school for a while and his hours are pretty erratic. Janie has been the focus of his life since she was born and her mother walked away.  He lived with his Dad and brothers all firefighters when she was a baby, but Cam realized he needed a job much less dangerous to protect Janie, and living in a house with three grown men was not the ideal. Janie's regular nanny had a family emergency, so he was hoping to find someone who could fill in quickly for a month or so since Janie was coming home from the hospital.  When this tall, gorgeous, young woman appeared at his door, nanny was the last thing on his mind!

Erin Crosby, RN, was equally surprised when tall, dark and handsome Cameron opened his door. She'd been sent by the service she worked for, but was not expecting  someone who immediately set her hormones happy dancing. Erin was an excellent Pediatric nurse, but a little quirky, admitted being a knitaholic demonstrated by the variety of scarf, sweater and hat she wore. She had confessed to her best friend/boss "It's difficult for me to walk with men, since I spend 90% of the time with at least one foot in my mouth!" This job was perfect for her, she could work on her thesis for her MSW and spend time with adorable Janie, not to mention her father.

This story was short, but packed with a lot of emotions. You can't help but fall in love with Janie and laugh out loud at the efforts Erin and Cam put into trying an employer/ employee relationship without benefits.  It's a "fall in love at first sight" story that is well written and entertaining.  I'm a big fan of Ms. Kaye's books and this will definitely be a re-read for me.

5 STARS!
