Pat's Review:

This is the first of Ms. Moon's books I have had the pleasure to read. I will be reading  the first in this series because the characters I met in The Second Chance Hero are so delightful, I want to know their stories as well.

Kim Torres RN USNR is working in a trauma center very close to the action in Kandahar, Afghanistan. A helicopter arrives to bring in two alpha patients (severely injured) and her life erupts. One of those patients dies in her arms, it is her fiancé, Tom Albanese. They have been together since childhood and the wedding was in six months.

She is staggering from  grief when she witnesses a young woman dissolving in sobs at the loss of her boyfriend.......Tom Albanese.  Dazed, she comes in contact with a Marine that needed stitches and is about to treat him, when she collapses in his arms. Fellow nurses come to the rescue, and she is taken away. But after finding out her identity and reason for collapse, Major Owen Kent can't forget her.

One year later, Owen Kent is home from his fourth tour in Afghanistan. He is taking a few days before going back to work with his partners in their multi-million dollar software company.  He has handed in his paperwork to leave the marines, and is ready to start his life. There is one incident and one person he can't get out of his mind.......the young nurse at the trauma center. Her grief and beauty are permanent fixtures in his memory.  A friend calls and asks him to pick up her nanny at a coffee shop, her car's not running and she's coming to a family/friend get together.  Owen walks into the coffee shop and is rocked on his heels when he realizes who the nanny is...... Kim Torres.

Owen is an amazing character, so patient, caring and unstoppable in his pursuit of Kim.  Betrayals and trust issues are a huge part of Kim's grief and recovery and Owen has secrets he needs to share to gain her trust. Kim has  kept Tom's betrayal a secret and it's eating her alive. She has little contact with Tom's family nor hers. She can't bear to hear what a wonderful, honest man he was.

This a very touching love story.  A brave man who won't give up, and a woman betrayed who finally realizes she can really love again. A very special story, beautifully told.

4 STARS!

Great review Pat! I've seen other rave reviews as well. I guess I'll be adding another one to the TBR pile!

Glad you enjoyed it, Pat. I read this one too and it was my first time with her books. I think you are more patient with the heroine than I was, but agreed it was all around good story.
