[Pat's Review]: "Still The One"

Still The One by Jill Shalvis
Publisher: Berkley (April 7, 2015)
Series: Animal Magnetism, 6
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Darcy Stone is game for anything — except sexy Navy veteran and physical therapist A.J. Colten, the guy who'd rejected her when she'd needed him most. Now the shoe is on the other foot and he needs her to play nice and help him secure grants for his patients. Unfortunately, Darcy can't refuse. She needs the money to fund her passion project: rescuing S&R dogs and placing them with emotionally wounded soldiers.

A.J. admits it — Darcy is irresistible. But he's already been battle-scarred by a strong-willed, vivacious, adventurous woman like Darcy, and he's not making the same mistake twice—until he and Darcy are forced to fake a relationship. Growing closer than they'd ever imagined possible, Darcy and AJ have to ask themselves: how much between them is pretend? What's the real thing? And where does it go from here?

Pat's Review:

The Animal Magnetism stories are my favorite of Ms. Shalvis's series. I have read every one, and listened to most on audio. This new story is as exciting as all the rest. I love visits to Sunshine, Idaho.

Darcy Stone was a travel writer for National Geographic and the Travel Channel. She loved her work, has been to amazing places and would be still traveling if she hadn't been in a horrific car crash that almost cost her life.  The accident occurred eleven months ago and she is slowly but surely healing. She works for the Sunshine Wellness Center for the man who relentlessly pulled her back to the land of the living AJ Carlton. He is the owner and chief physical therapist for the center. He is also her brother and sister's best friend. She is eternally grateful for all he has done and continues to do to help her. There is only one teeny problem, she is madly attracted to him and he totally ignores her.  Darcy's other passion is rescuing dogs to use as companions for people who need emotional support. There are a lot of people needing this help, and not a lot of funds to help them.

AJ is a Navy vet who occasionally travels back and forth to D.C to lobby insurance companies to extend benefits for those needing more extensive therapy. He is also asked to consult on patients at Walter Reed to help design treatment plans. He loves his work, his friends and much to his chagrin Darcy Stone.  The only way he can keep his emotions on track is to avoid her as much as possible......not easy to do!  He knows the pain she is living with and can't help but try to make it easier. AJ is working very hard to get a Grant that will help him give people the extra PT they need when their insurance runs out. He has someone very interested in his work, and needs to present his ideas and a patient.  The only patient available is none other than Darcy. This story takes off and gives us a wild ride.

We run into old friends in Sunshine, catch up on news and meet the sweetest dogs ever.  There is laughter, tears and as usual a perfect romance.  I wholeheartedly recommend buying and reading this wonderful book.
