Pat's Review: Knocked Up

Knocked Up by Stacey Lynn
Publisher: Loveswept (June 12, 2018)
Series: Crazy Love, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Dual 1st POV

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage. Just not necessarily in that order. . . .

Braxton: I should probably be dead or in jail right now. Instead, thanks to some tough love, I worked my ass off and now I own a string of tattoo parlors throughout the Pacific Northwest. And yet the one thing I’ve always wanted—a family—still seems out of reach. When my best friend gets married, I’m just hoping to blow off some steam with the super-hot maid of honor. But after Cara Thompson tracks me down to tell me she’s pregnant, she’s more surprised than I am when I tell her I’m all in.

Cara: For the first time in my life, I’m living for myself—not for my parents and their ridiculous expectations. I gave up on my MBA, dropped out of the Ivy League, and moved to Portland to pursue my dream of becoming an artist. And what’s the first thing I do? Get knocked up. For a tatted-up sex god, Braxton Henley seems way too eager to “be there for me.” Is this guy serious? Maybe. He sure is patient. Because he won’t back down until I admit what I know in my heart: that our one night stand might’ve led me to the one.

Pat's Review:

Cara Thompson has just used six pregnancy tests to confirm what she knew after the first one. All thanks to a one night stand with the Best Man at her best friend's wedding, and so far out of her normal it’s not even in the same stratosphere. It was awesome, but fearing “the morning after”, she sneaked away in the night.

Braxton Henley, sought after tattoo artist, owner of multiple tattoo parlors and all around nice guy, really enjoyed the romp with Cara. So much so he was disappointed when she disappeared. He thought they were special....guess not. But, Karma has an amazing sense of humor and has made it impossible to walk away from each other. When she confessed her pregnancy, he was actually excited. He has always wanted a family, perhaps not so quickly, but his own childhood had been so lacking he wanted more. If not for a giant of a man taking him under his wing, he would probably be in jail. Cara on the other hand had a privileged childhood, but found nothing but disdain from her parents. After her twin brother died, she struck out on her own, now works in an artist gallery, and paints for the pure joy of it and lives in a crappy apartment that she can actually afford on her own. Once Braxton finds out, her knight in shining armor wants to whisk her away to his penthouse in the sky and keep her safe and protected. Only one problem: she finally found her independence and really doesn’t want to give it up.

The pregnancy ups and downs are hilariously chronicled, and Braxton, who Cara is definitely falling in love with, will obviously be a wonderful father. But fighting her parents and outside influences are difficult.

This is a beautiful, funny, romantic love story. It’s an easy read and the characters are wonderful. I definitely recommend this delightful  novel.
