Interview with Christi Barth!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, CHRISTI! :)

Christi Barth earned a Masters degree in vocal performance and embarked upon a career on the stage.

A love of romance then drew her to wedding planning.  Ultimately she succumbed to her lifelong love of books and now writes contemporary romance.

Christi is President of the Maryland Romance Writers and lives in Maryland with her husband.

Where to Find Christi:

TheBookQueen: Hi Christi! I made some Snickers brownie bites yesterday and they’re so good, it’s sinful. *offers plate* Can I get you something to drink?

Christi: My characters in the book I just finished writing (book 3!) run both a winery and a distillery, which means that I’ve had alcohol on the brain for about four months straight. So, um, you bet I’d like a drink! I think a chocolate martini would go very well with those brownie bites…

TBQ: I think you're right. :) *hands over martini*

Your newest release, All For You just came out this week – Congrats! Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?

C: Thanks so much – I adore this book, and am thrilled to share it with people.

It is a typical romance in that yup, there’s a super cute first meet, and a kiss in chapter one and hot sex. But the characters aren’t typical at all. My hero is a college professor who is famous for his study of cults. That exposure to danger makes him a modern-day Indiana Jones, full of big words, insatiable curiosity…as well as a black belt in karate and mouthwatering muscles. And my park ranger heroine has been hiding in plain sight from the media for fifteen years.

TBQ: Oh! Yep, AFY is definitely getting bumped up my list. :D

Why do Casey and Zane belong together?

C: I have an author friend who insists we figure out all the ways the H/H are the worst possible people for each other. And trust me-they are! But she’s turned on by his brain, and he’s turned on by her bravery. Opposites really do attract, I promise.

TBQ: I agree -- and really, who can resist when it happens? :)

In 5 words or less, describe Casey for us. And let's not forget Zane -- what's he like?

C: Casey is blunt, strong, insecure and grateful (you’ll see why!). Zane is ….all kinds of awesome. I dare you not to fall for him!

TBQ: I think that would be a sucker bet (er, dare?) to take. :D

Do you have a favorite part from All For You?

C: Casey gets in a fight with her (male) best friend. Both the fight and the scene where they make up are my absolute faves. I get choked up just thinking about them.

TBQ: Sounds like an intense scene!

Alright, switch of topics . . . What was the last book that left you with a book hangover?

C: Sixth Grave on the Edge by Darynda Jones. Sooooo many unanswered questions in that series – I can’t stop going over the possibilities in my mind.

TBQ: I still need to try that series -- everyone's talking about it!

We've all fallen for a hero (or two, or three, or....ahem).  Tell us one hero that you've fallen for—who is he and what drew you to him?

C: Roark in Nora Roberts In Death series. He’s smart and hot and rich and dangerous and true. In other words, the perfect man!

TBQ: Another series I need to read! I've read most of NR's books, but not her In Death series under Robb.

What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?

C: Look for Back To Us – book three in the Shore Secrets series in July. It is chock full of bromance and tugs at the heartstrings and laugh out loud moments. And then I’m moving to a new series set in DC – Naked Men.

SPEED ROUND:

A day on a secluded island OR a day at the spa?
Easy. Spa day, with champagne as well as herbal tea, a roaring fireplace in the quiet room, a scrub and a massage and a eucalyptus scented steam room. [I can picture it now . . . *happy sigh*]

Reading a spicy romance novel OR a sweet “my-heart-skips-a-beat” one?
Spicy. Because I’ve got my hubby making my heart skip a beat every single day. [AWWWW! Lucky girl!]

Which would you rather have an affair with: a sexy highlander OR a devilishly handsome English lord?
Super easy. English lord – better clothes, wittier banter – he’s the whole package. [Fair point -- I'll forgive you for not picking the Highlander . . . ;)]

Hot summer days OR cold winter nights?
Cold winter nights. ‘Cause sweating SUCKS! [It does! But freezing cold night suck, too!]

Where would your dream house be: in the city, where all the action is OR nestled in the mountain where you can enjoy the quiet and the wilderness?
City. I need hustle and bustle and theatre and symphony and sushi.

If you could live in one fictional world, which one would it be?
Narnia. I didn’t even think about that – it just popped right out. [Into the wardrobe for you!]

Cover Lover OR Blurb Fan?
I’ll pick up a book because of the cover, but I’ll only read it if the blurb also sucks me in – the words are the gateway drug, not the exposed abs (no matter how much I do appreciate those!).

Steamy Novella OR Sweet Novel? (aka, Quickie or Slow Build Up?)
I’m a speed reader (not by choice) so I’ll always choose the longer option. Everything is over too fast for me!

Quick—name the one food that you cannot live without?
Pasta

And finally, tell us 3 unique/wacky/fun things about yourself:

  • I’m petrified of elevators.
  • When I was was an opera singer, I had my makeup done by the guy who did all the makeup on Batman 2 (he turned me into a prostitute with SPECTACULAR drawn-on cleavage!) [LOL!]
  • And while I like to drink, I can NOT do shots. At all. Never. Yuck.

TheBookQueen:  Thanks so much for stopping by, Christi, and please know that you are welcome back anytime! Do you have any questions for our readers—something to spark a good discussion? :)

Christi: Could you truly keep a deep, dark secret from the love of your life?

All For You by Christi Barth
Publisher: Carina Press (February 9, 2015)
Series: Shore Secrets, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Small-town park ranger Casey Hobbes has spent her life under the radar, carefully guarding a secret. "The forest flirt," as her best friend calls her, keeps things casual with men. That way she'll never care enough to be tempted to share the truth about her past. But when she spots a half-naked stranger on the lake's edge, Casey can't resist his muscles or his charm and she's all-in for enjoying both, while keeping emotion out of it. What could be the danger of one summer fling?

Professor Zane Buchanan has built his entire career on exposing the dark realities of cults, but one—the Sunshine Seekers—remains infuriatingly impossible to crack. Zane's shocked to discover its sole anonymous survivor is hiding in his new hometown. It's nearly impossible to concentrate on work, however, when he's derailed by his attraction to the beautiful blonde in khaki uniform shorts.

As things between Casey and Zane heat up, she struggles with keeping her past from him. And Zane's on a quest to expose the truth, no matter the consequences. Will their growing emotions finally unseal Casey's big secret? Or will she turn her back on love to keep the past safely buried?
