[Kame's Review]: "Rebel"

Rebel by Skye Jordan
Publisher: Cygnet Books (December 22, 2013)
Series: Renegades, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Sassy, smart, and sexy, former supermodel-turned-tech guru Rubi Russo has it all—looks, money, confidence and freedom. Her life is a whirlwind of fast cars and fleeting affairs—and she likes it that way. With a past like Rubi’s, forever isn’t part of her vocabulary. So when studly Renegade stuntman Wes Lawson wants to take their friendship to the next level, she’s all out.

Raised a simple country-boy, Wes knows the brazen Rubi isn’t his type. But after spending time with her, he discovers she’s everything he’s ever wanted in a woman. To win her wild rebel heart, he’ll have to prove he sees behind her smokescreen to all the goodness she tries to hide. Then it’s just a matter of crushing her fears, shattering her barriers, and convincing her that loving him is everything she’s been missing in her life, too.

Piece of cake.

Kame's Review:

Rubi Russo has her own rules. She is a genius when it comes to writing computer code, is a former model, has a brain for business and doesn’t believe in relationships – only one night temporary arrangements; she is a Rebel. Wes Lawson is an engineer, turned motorcycle racer, turned stuntman. He comes from farm country and his family assumes when he gets this fun out of his system he will come back; he is a Rebel. They first met months ago when they were each dropping off their friends at the airport; the friends ended up meeting and falling in love; now Rubi and Wes are unlikely friends. Rubi doesn’t do lasting relationships or family well; and it seems that Wes is only programmed to think of the long term and he can’t get Rubi off his mind.

Wes is a fantastic hero in this book. He has a few layers to him that I found intriguing. He is a good country boy, having the time of his life being a stuntman in LA. I enjoyed his patience with Rubi, and his willingness to try to understand her issues. His love for family is incredible, when he confessed to never having a one-night stand I almost melted. There were times I wanted to reach through the book and slap him especially in the last chapters of the book. Rubi has a lot of emotional baggage from her childhood. She and Lexi (Book 1) are best friends and have created their own family. I love that she is a computer programmer; she puts the stereotype of programmers to shame. There is a point in the book where she pushes her comfort level to help in a situation and I applaud Ms. Jordan for that scene, it shows how far she can come and maybe she isn’t as broken as she thinks.

I am loving the stuntman backdrop to these books. The series is a refreshing new set of types of characters I have never read about before.  I find all the scenes with the guys interesting. I also enjoyed that we got to spend time with Lexi and Jax from book 1. There are a lot of Renegades that were introduced and I hope we see books for all of them, which will allow plenty of check in scenes with these great couples.

I have no idea who will be the lead to book 3, but I would really like to read it immediately.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
