[Pat's Review]: "Playing Doctor"

Playing Doctor by Jan Meredith
Publisher: Entangled: Brazen (November 25, 2013)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

One night with a sexy stranger is just what the doctor ordered...

When a fellow RN predicts Beth Roberts will meet a tall, ripped, and totally lick-o-licious stranger who will fulfill her deepest desires, she laughs it off. Given her tragic love life, Beth has no desire to become involved again. But who could have predicted the doctor with the mischievous smile she meets at a wedding, or the chemistry sparking between them that threatens to break through her defenses?

Dr. Gabriel North spent two years blaming himself for his wife’s death. Having finally battled through the guilt and overcome his demons, he’s ready to move on. When he meets a sexy nurse at his friend’s wedding, the attraction is swift and strong, and he wastes no time in pressing his advantage. One night with the woman who makes him feel alive again isn’t enough, but gaining Beth’s trust is going to take more than seduction…

Pat's Review:

If your a contemporary romance reader, this novella has everything! I finished it in one sitting and couldn't wait to put my thoughts on paper.

Beth Roberts is a Nurse Administrator in the ER. She loves her job, but sometimes feels she is being buried in paperwork.  Her best friend Connie, a fellow RN, is always trying to get her back into living her life, not just putting in time.  Beth is a widow, her son a senior in high school looking at colleges and he is a very talented photographer.  Her deceased husband, Jamie, was progressively more abusive after his last deployment in Afghanistan, and she's living with the scars and trauma. She tries not to focus on the relief she felt when he took his own life.  Beth is joining her son as his assistant for a wedding he is photographing out of town. She has a hotel room, by herself, for a whole weekend, and plans to get a lot of work done. Connie challenges Beth to a sexy weekend with a tall dark and handsome stranger she can pick up for a no strings weekend.  Beth is not convinced that's possible.

Gabriel North known as Gabe is a groomsman and the talk of the bridesmaids. He's tall, dark and luscious and Beth listens to their gossip while they are being photographed.  He's an ER physician, widowed and since his wife's death a loner. They even hint he feels responsible.  The wedding proceeds like clockwork until the grooms uncle, a middle aged man trying too hard to impress his very young partner, collapses.  Gabe rushes to his side surprised at seeing the photographer's assistant, bending over the victim checking his pulse. He has been watching and admiring her every move around the room. Working together, they stabilize him until the EMT's arrive and take him to the hospital.  They share a drink and get to know each other. Suddenly Beth hears Connie's challenge in her head. Why not?

What follows is a very sensual, brief but very sexy encounter where each of these wounded lovers unexpectedly open their hearts, both so in need of reassurance and forgiveness.  I didn't want this book to end!  Ms. Meredith has assured me that their more stories to tell.  I can't wait.
