[Pat's Review]: "Life After Perfect"

Life After Perfect by Nancy Naigle
Publisher: Montlake Romance (May 19, 2015)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Katherine Barclift had it all: the perfect job, the perfect car, and what she thought was the perfect marriage. But when her entire world collapses in one stomach-churning instant, she hits the road and keeps driving until that so-called “perfect life” is just a dot in her rearview mirror.

A chance encounter leads her to make a pit stop in Boot Creek, a drowsy little North Carolina town where she can call herself Katy, soak up the peace and quiet…and drink in the bluer-than-blue eyes of Derek Hansen, a local doctor still wrestling with his own painful past. Both Katy and Derek are wary about giving romance another shot, but they can’t deny the intense attraction between them. And if being in Boot Creek has taught them anything, it’s to take life as it comes and never pass up a chance at true love…no matter how wounded your heart may be.

Pat's Review:

Katherine Barclift had a perfect life in Preakness Falls, Georgia. Wonderful job, loving workaholic husband Ron, friends and a beautiful home. After the death of a neighbor, she starts reflecting on her life. They never seem to find the right time to have children, they often pass each other in the night and she decides she wants to change this. On a casual visit to Ron's office she suffers the ultimate betrayal. Katherine does what every woman in her place would love to do. She takes a leave of absence from her job, packs up, withdraws half their savings and hits the road....driving north. No destination in mind. She also places a call to her friend Shaleigh, an attorney known for her shark like ways of bringing men to their knees.

Derek Hansen is a physician helping out in his Dad's practice, a widower with a young son, and a volunteer firefighter. He loves this little town of Boot Creek, North Carolina. He moved back here after his wife's diagnosis of cancer and subsequent passing so they could be near family. He know's it's the perfect place for himself and his son. A casual stop on the way to the firehouse ends up shaking his world. A beautiful woman pumping gas, a stranger, pulls at his senses. He casually recommends the Blackberry Festival going on and as he drives away he can't believe he even talked to her.

Katherine Barclift is Katy Bar in Boot Creek, she likes this little town; she has a room in a bed and breakfast where everyone is treated like family, a man she met in a gas station that totally intrigues her and whom she wants to get to know better. If it wasn't for the secret that hangs over her like a shroud, it would be a place she could see herself staying.. As she and Derek get more involved the secret is a danger to their relationship and her life in Boot Creek.

I have not read Ms. Naigle before, but I will be looking for her previous novels. This is a small town romance with second chances, wonderfully colorful characters and a satisfying ending. I couldn't put this book down.

4 1/2 STARS!

Small town romance and second chances are two of my favorite things. I'd not heard of her before. Thanks for the intro Pat!
