[Review]: "What He Left Behind"

What He Left Behind by L.A. Witt
Publisher: Samhain Publishing, Ltd. (August 18, 2015)
Genre: M/M/M Romance

M/M/M story coming September 2015 from Samhain Publishing.

Can you ever have a second first time?

Josh Carver thinks it’s just another lunch with his best friend, Michael—until Michael confesses he just turned down a date with his hot veterinarian crush. It seems Michael’s abusive ex left him more scarred than Josh realized.

Josh and his husband, Ian, have done their best to help Michael leave his horrific past behind, but even Josh is stunned when Ian suggests that Josh help Michael with his fear of physical intimacy. After all, it isn’t like it would be the first time—Josh and Michael were once each other’s firsts.

A hesitant first kiss, and Josh and Michael’s natural attraction eases the way. But with Michael still balking at the prospect of sex with someone new, Ian steps into the breach.

Everything is fine and dandy until emotions become so entangled, their friendship—and a marriage—could be at risk.

Warning: Contains three guys who will do anything for each other, a hot tub that’s always the right temperature, and a cat with an attitude problem.

My Review:

This is my second time reading L.A. Witt, and my first time reading a m/m/m triad from any author. I can't say I was disappointed; though I must admit that What He Left Behind didn't blow me away, I still very much enjoyed it.

The chemistry and sex is off the charts. I have no complaints there. It didn't matter which pairing was together, or if it was all three, it was always extremely sexy and satisfying (no pun intended . . . ). It was great to see Josh and Ian help Michael through his trauma from the ex, though it's not the preferred counseling option, I'm sure, it did seem to work for these three, in this fictional setting.

My “problems” with the book, and they are minor problems at that, revolve more around the fact that I didn't feel like the triad relationship was fully fleshed out. The jump to “let's be a throuple” seemed a bit rushed for me, because while I knew that Michael and Ian were at least best friends for years before this, it all seemed just a tad too quick. Perhaps it would have helped if the story had been from more than just Josh's POV, I'm not really sure. Triad's, both in reality and when writing about them, are very complicated. I suppose I just wanted to see more of how these three reached their HEA. What Witt gave us was well done, don't get me wrong, but I simply wanted more

A super sexy, though at times sweet, romance, What He Left Behind was just what I was in the mood for, and I enjoyed trying my first all male triad. I won't be opposed to trying more, and of course I'll be back for more of Witt's novels in the future.

3 1/2 STARS!
