Whatcha Reading? (6)

A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and we will share our brief thoughts on books that we read during the previous week but will not be reviewing.

August 2nd - 8th:

-- The Year We Fell Down by Sarina Bowen --

I liked this book. It was fun, with some sweet moments. I loved that the heroine was so strong. The hero . . . well, I had some issues with him, though he did have his really great moments. But he had the tendency to stay with his girlfriend (in every sense of the word . . . ), even while showing interest in the heroine, and that's always a big NOOOOO for me.

Still, I'll probably come back to this series, there's a few other characters I want to see more of. 3 1/2 Stars

Favorite quote:

“Everybody has their shit to shovel, Callahan. Everybody.” He gave my hand a squeeze, and then took his back. “Now, yours is right up front where everybody can see it. I don’t envy you that. But everybody has some, whether you can see it or not.”

-- A Lot Like Love by Julie James --

I must admit, this book was slow going for me. It didn't really grab my attention until almost 1/3 of the way in, and even then, I wasn't 100% wowed by it. I liked it, it was fun at times (the wine tasting innuendos, for example, were great). I'll still read another book from James, since I did really love the previous book in this series.

I listened on audio; the narrator did a nice job. Not a favorite narrator, but nothing obviously wrong/annoying with her narration, either. 3 1/2 Stars

Favorite Quote:

“Time for Wine Tasting 101. So here’s how this works. When tasting a wine, as opposed to casual drinking, there are four basic steps you need to remember: sight, smell, taste, then spit or swallow.”

Nick paused at that last part and cocked his head. “And your personal preference on the latter would be…?”

“Only lightweights spit.”

-- Giving It All by Arianna Hart --

I really liked Giving It All, but I wasn't blown away by it. It was sexy as hell at times, which I loved. Grant was a wonderful hero, and I could relate to Ellie. And the cover? Well, the cover is just pure yummy. All in all, it was a quick read for me, and I'd like to try another book by Hart in the future. Between 3 1/2 and 4 Stars

Favorite Quote:

"I'm no hero. I lost my leg when an IED blew up during a routine patrol, not during a mission."

"You served our country with honor. That makes you a hero to me, and to most of the town too."

Grant looked away, not saying anything for a minute. "There were some great guys, real heroes, who lost their lives over there."

"And I pray for them and their families every night. But just because you survived doesn't make you less of a hero."
