-- The Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev -- [Audiobook, Library]

I really did like this one, and Dev's writing especially. But here's the thing . . . I felt it was weak as a romance novel, but great as a story, period. I think part of the romance problem could have been fixed if we had the hero's POV as well, maybe? But as is, I just didn't see how these two, who had so much between them because of their individual pasts, as well as their brief past as a couple, went from snipping at one another to falling back in love. I just didn't see it at ALL, it was like a flip was switched from one page, where they were avoiding each other, to another page where they're loving and kissing. I couldn't believe the romance, really.

Also of note: there's really only one sex scene, and it was . . . not sexy, at least to me. It read as more dry and to the point. The rest of their scenes were fade-to-black. Which is fine; I'm not knocking the rating down because of these things, merely pointing them out here.

As I said, Dev's writing is beautiful and lush, and she really brings her world to life, I had no complaints there. There's a lot of dark emotions and angst, especially in Ria's past, so be prepared for that, though I felt Dev handled it all well. I just wasn't happy with the romance part of this romance novel. I'll still try another one from Dev in the future. 3 1/2 Stars

Narration: Priya Ayyar did an okay job. I didn't hate anything about her narration, but I didn't absolutely LOVE it, either. It was just average, so 3 Stars. Would probably listen to another book from her.

Favorite quote:

When he threaded his fingers through her hair and tugged her lips to his, she had melted in his arms, crumbled into infinite pieces, and allowed every single one of them to merge into him.
