Pat's Review: Every Dog Has His Day

Every Dog Has His Day by Jenn McKinlay
Publisher: Berkley (January 2, 2018)
Series: Bluff Point, 3
Genre: Contemporary Romance

A stray kitten and a rambunctious poodle bring together a small-town bachelor and a single mother in the latest romance set in Bluff Point, Maine.

Bluff Point brewery owner Zachary Caine wants nothing to do with commitment. His wild bachelor lifestyle suits him perfectly—until a foster kitten named Chaos makes him a reluctant hero. Now he’s BFFs with the kitten’s two little girls and finds himself falling for their gorgeous mother, who couldn’t think less of him.

Divorced mother Jessie Connelly wants nothing to do with men like Zach. He’s sexy and charismatic and bad news, just like her ex. But her girls adore him, and he’s doing a good job filling in for their deadbeat dad. Then a snowstorm brings out the best in both neighbors, who, it turns out, have more in common than their mutual attraction...

So when Jessie’s past threatens her and her girls, Zach is determined to do whatever it takes to protect them—and live happily ever after with this family he has made his own.

Pat's Review:

This is the first novel I have read by Ms. McKinlay, and it certainly won’t be the last. There is a lot of humor, friends, small town fun, and a very sexy romance, not to mention an awesome dog and cat.

Zach Caine is the owner of Bluff Point Brewery in Bluff Point, Maine. Owning a brewery has blessed him with friends and coworkers that like to party together. They know him as a happy-go-lucky guy who gives commitment a wide berth. He has a dog Rufus, a big lovable poodle who is his constant companion.

His next door neighbor, Jessie Connolly, is the manager of his friend's veterinarian office and a single mom of two adorable girls, Maddie and Gracie. He becomes their hero when he rescues their kitten, Chaos, off his roof, and takes a scary plunge into the snow....but Chaos was fine. The kids adore him, now if he could just get Jessie on his side. A blizzard hits Bluff Point and Zach worries about Jessie and her girls when the power goes out, and he and Rufus head to the rescue. What follows is days of playing in the snow, lots of hot chocolate, and sleeping by the fire. But the logs aren’t the only thing on fire! Jessie is getting over a nasty divorce, and doesn’t want her kids hurt again by someone walking away. Zach has no intention of walking away...but he can’t seem to convince Jessie of that, so Maddie and Gracie take things in their own hands to solve this dilemma.

I loved this contemporary romance, the light-hearted banter, and all the characters, including the pets. Just what you need to read when you're looking for some sizzles and laughs.
