Whatcha Reading? (June 16th)

Romance News: The Good Edition

My Week

If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know about my utterly shitty week. It all started Sunday night when my grandmother was life-flighted to the city hospital. Tuesday morning we had to make the decision to take her off life support. The rest of the week has been a painful blur of grief and loss, family drama and stress, and a struggle to get everything taken care of, the bulk of which rests solely on my shoulders. I've had a few moments of laughter while going through her things (here and here), and a combo laugh/cry when something I had ordered for her showed up (here). But I'm not going to lie, this week has been rough, and I don't see that ending any time soon. I know many of you understand what I'm going through -- both the loss of someone you love in general, but also specifically losing a beloved grandmother that you were very close to. I haven't been able to reply back to all the messages, but I see them all and I appreciate them so very, very much.

Needless to say, things are a bit up-in-the-air with blog stuff right now. I'm terribly behind on emails, so if you've sent me one, please know that I see it, and will get back to you as soon as I can. I'm still keeping posts going on the blog, partly because that work gives me a bit of an escape from everything else. Even so, don't be surprised if things slow down for a bit, or I miss a post or whatever. I know, I know, "It's okay, take all the time you need, the blog will be here when you're ready." But I can't shut off the part of my brain that is focused on how behind I am with things.

No surprise then that my reading week has been, well, shit. I don't have much time for reading, and even when I do have some free time, I can't seem to concentrate. Hopefully that'll change soon, because I desperately need the escape of my romance novels to get me through this...

What I Read:

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
Narrated by Priya Ayyar
3 Stars

✦ 1st POV
✦ YA Fantasy, Indian mythology
✦ Series not yet complete
✦ Gorgeous cover and writing!
✦ Similar to a Hades/Persephone story….but where’s the romance?!
✦ I was a bit lost on a lot of the world and what was going on
✦ If my library gets the second book in, I'll probably pick it up -- I didn't hate anything about this one. And maybe things are better explained in the second one?
✦ Also: while the narration was lovely, this may be one of those stories that, for me at least, works best when read the first time rather than trying to listen to it first, you know?

Currently Listening To:

Scandal Never Sleeps by Shayla Black and Lexi Blake

I actually started listening to a different audiobook this week, but I had an even harder time concentrating on it so I decided to just DNF/try again later. I'm still zoning out with this one, of course, because of what's going on in my life, but not nearly as bad.

Anyway, I'm really not that far into this one yet, but basically his friend just passed, and he's stepping up to handle his company. He has a hot 1NS with a stranger . . . who turns out to be one of his employees. Oops!

Oh! And the ebook is currently $2.99!

Currently Reading:

Ocean Light by Nalini Singh

Yeah, I'm still reading this one. I told you, it's been a shit week when not even a Nalini Singh can save me!

I will say though, I'm a bit disappointed in this one. Compared to most of the series, and especially my favs in this world, this book is just . . . kinda meh. And I hate saying that about a Singh book! But there it is. :/

I am almost done with it though, so after I think I'm going to move on to

A Girl Like Her by Talia Hibbert

Talia, take me away! I've been holding on to my unread Talia Hibbert books for when I need some comfort. Well, this is not how I expected to read it, but damn, I need some comfort. Plus the follow-up novella (different couple) just came out this week. So maybe it's time to binge them both and forget about ARCs for a little bit...

This was the book that was inspired by bearded Captain America. Really, what more do you need to know? ;)

So what are YOU currently reading?

Enjoy!

Until Next Time,
