A Day in the Life of Atticus Grimes

Morning should be happen later in the day. Or, just not happen. Why the hell did I let Dane talk me into going out last night?

Oh. Avery’s here. I should put on pants. Or….No. Bad idea. Sexy times with the assistant is a bad idea.

If she doesn’t want sexy tiems, she should probably quit wearing shorts that look like she painted them on. It makes it hard to concentrate.

I’ve gotten nothing done. Avery’s singing—the girl can’t sing but it’s fun to listen to her. Its also distracting as all get out. It’s a good thing Avery is so good at keeping my shit together, or I’d be screwed.

I get a few emails answered and then leave to meet with Dr. Randall. It’s a good meeting—but I’m distracted most of the time.

Dane is working in the kitchen. I should go out and watch a baseball game, or read the report that came in this afternoon. I text Avery instead.

I end up going out to dinner with Dane and watch him flirt with our waitress. He doesn’t bring her home, so that’s a plus.

Later, I call Avery. She’s watching a movie—something boring and very much a chick flick. I grab a beer and flip the channel over to it, making jokes and wishing like hell that she was here instead of across town.

I can hear her breathing—she’s asleep now. I am so incredibly screwed.

You can read more about Atticus and his assistant in This Love, available now from Amazon and Barnes and Noble! :)

This Love by Nazarea Andrews
Publisher: A&A Literary (June 22, 2013)
Series: University of Branton, 1
Genre: New Adult (Contemporary)
She wants a summer job and a ride to a wedding.

He wants an assistant and a distraction from the mess his life had become.

They didn't know they needed each other.

Avery Emili needs two grand. Two grand and a plane ticket--her sister is counting on her to get to Jamaica for her wedding. But the semester is over, and tutoring college freshman and high school students has dried up until the fall.

Atticus Grimes needs help--the messy split with his wife left the twenty-eight year old professor scrambling to keep things together as the semester winds down. Now he's got a research grant he has to actually do research for and all he wants to do is drown himself in a tall bottle of bourbon.

When Avery sees his ad for an assistant, all she's thinking is a summer job. But as they spend time together, in the office and out, both of them begin to realize something is there. Something that can't happen--he's a professor and she's a student. And both of them have histories, pasts that won’t let go. Can two broken people pulled apart by expectations find a way to be whole?
