[Kame's Review]: "Play Me"

Play Me by Diane Alberts
Publisher: Entangled: Ever After (July 29, 2013)
Series: Take a Chance, 3
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Even the best-laid plans can go awry.

Single-mom Kiersten Worth knows a bottle of champagne and night of hot, no-strings-attached sex is the perfect solution to her jilted bride blues…and Garrett Kelly, long-time friend and her teenaged son’s sexy basketball coach, is just the stud for the job.

Garrett wants more from the elusive temptress than a casual affair, but he never expects it to come in the form of an unexpected pregnancy. When he proposes an unorthodox solution—move in and raise their baby together—Kiersten has to decide whether to let down her guard and open her heart to the man who secretly loved her for years, or risk losing his tender embrace for good.

Kame's Review:

Kiersten and Garrett have been friends for years. Garrett is Kiersten’s brother’s best friend. Garrett has feelings for Kiersten, but kept them to himself to not to ruin two friendships. One day Kiersten sees Garrett in a new light and asks him to help take away the pain; one night with no strings, no one has to know.

I liked Garrett and Kiersten but felt I didn't get to know them deeply in this book. They were each likable characters but I didn’t feel a deeper connection to them. Garrett has loved Kiersten for years - but I didn't really feel it; and Kiersten has a deep commitment phobia and the reason - while valid didn't seem like it warranted her to be that adamant about no relationships. I did enjoy the interaction with Chris, Kiersten’s nephew.  I thought he was one of the more stand out characters. Best dialogue in book came between Garrett and his bestfriend - Kiersten's brother.

“Give it time. She’s starting to cave,” Mike said. His voice soft.

“I can see it.” Garrett jumped. He hadn’t heard Mike come in. “I highly doubt that.”

“Did you see the look in her eyes?”

“The panic and fear, mixed with the desire to flee?” he drawled. “Yeah, I saw it.”

Mike snorted. “Behind that. There was…uncertainty. That hadn’t been there before.”

“Since when are you the Oprah Winfrey of Vegas?”

“She retired.” Mike smirked. “Someone had to take her place, and I look damned good in heels.”

I loved that basketball was featured in this book, but don’t shy away from reading it if you don’t like sports. Garrett is a basketball coach, and plays basketball but there is not strategy or basketball terms outside of “three point” mentioned. This is a very quick read, as I read it in an afternoon. It is part of a series, but I found no part that was difficult to follow because I had not read another books. My first book by this author – if she writes a book about Kiersten’s brother Mike I would definitely read it.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
