Interview with Stacy Eaton!

WELCOME TO THE BLOG, STACY! :)

Stacy is a full-time police officer who enjoys crime scene investigation above all else, taking a passion in putting the pieces together to figure out the crime. She is also a business owner where she helps people get the awareness out for the causes they care most about. She is a mother of two, a son proudly serving in the United States Navy and a young daughter. Her husband is also in law enforcement. Stacy is also currently serving on the board of directors for her local domestic violence center. She is very much into photography and carries her Nikon Digital SLR with her almost everywhere, just in case.

Where to Find Stacy:

TheBookQueen: Hi Stacy! May I offer you something to drink? I have fresh cranberry orange scones on the table as well; help yourself!

Stacy: Coffee, always coffee!  And I love cranberry orange scones!!!!  Just pass the plate over here please! You don’t mind do you? I had to skip lunch so I could finish up a report and then get this done on time!

TBQ: Coffee is its own food group, isn't it? :) *passes over the scones*

Let's start out with a simple question – Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

S: Well, I am a total control freak which helps me with my everyday career as a Detective. Okay, sometimes it helps me there, sometimes it kiss me in the butt instead!  I love investigating crimes and doing forensics!  I love puzzles, so putting all the pieces together and then arresting someone is worth the hours and hours of concentration and many times frustration! I also love watching my daughter while she trains in her martial arts! I wish I could do it with her, but I have issues with my foot, and kicking targets and breaking boards just makes it worse.

TBQ: Sounds like there is never a dull day for you!

So what made you decide to start writing? Why romance?

S: Strangely enough, one day I came up with an idea, and then wham… I sat down and starting writing. That was back in October 2010, and at the time, my husband just laughed at me. He doesn’t laugh at me anymore, not when I am about to have eight novels published. I had never thought about writing before thought, and I actually hated writing in high school. Why romance? Why not? Lol… Actually, most of what I write is romantic suspense. My beta readers call me the grim reaper because I like to kill off my characters at odd times. Some of my earlier novels are paranormal, but recently I have spent more time writing plain old romantic suspense. Life is so full of drama, especially at work, and I like to get lost in writing a story. I don’t know that I particularly plain to write romance, the characters just make it happen.

TBQ: Wow, eight books! I hope you (politely) shoved that in your hubby's laughing face! LOL

Your newest release, Distorted Loyalty, recently came out. Can you tell us a little bit about this book, and why readers are going to love it?

S: I’m so excited to release this one and the best part is – today is Friday the 13th – my Birthday – and I was born on Friday the 13th – so today is a very lucky day for me! Anyway, I’ll stop talking about myself now since you did ask me a question about the book. First let me tell you that this plot came to me two days after I released Second Shield. I have no idea where this plot came from – it just appeared one day – and 28 days later, the story was written.  This has a lot of drama in it. There is no sex, but there is a whole lot of chemistry that pulls at Rachel and Grant while they are trying to move forward with their lives. Every time it looks like things might go their way, something else steps between them and they clash all over again.

TBQ: That's right -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And I believe I promised chocolate cake . . . *grabs a hidden plate* Enjoy!

When done right, chemistry can be just as fulfilling as a good sex scene. *wink*

Why do Grant and Rachel belong together?

S: You know when you hear about people who have been screwed over so many times and you just want them to be happy? Well, that’s kind of how these two are. Their pasts are so twisted at times, that you pull for them to find a happily ever after, but I can’t tell you if that really happens or not. You will have to read the book, lol…

TBQ: Oh you tease! :)

In 5 words or less, describe Rachel for us. And let's not forget Grant—what's he like?

S: Rachel – Strong, independent, caring and loyal
Grant – Sexy as hell and hurt.

TBQ: Oh, who doesn't love a tortured hero?

When writing each novel, do you listen to certain songs, like a playlist for the story? If so, what was the playlist for Distorted Loyalty?

S: Normally I do, but I didn’t for this one. I have a ton of play lists, and kept changing up the music every time I sat down to write. I need background noise to keep me focused, so music is ALWAYS playing, when I write and when I am at work doing reports.

TBQ: Do you have a favorite part from Distorted Loyalty?

S: Rachel has a son, Josh. He’s sixteen and I love the relationship that they have. There are a few scenes that will make you absolutely love these two. I laugh every time I think of two particular scenes involving being old enough to make decisions about having sex.

TBQ: Oh dear, that does sound like the recipe for a good scene!

I know we all hate this question, author and reader alike. :) But I have to ask: What are a few of your favorite books and/or authors?

S: Okay, I’m a Melissa Foster fan. I can’t deny that. I love her books, and she is also a very good friend of mine.  I also enjoy reading books by Carolyn Arnold and Amy Manemann. I also really enjoy Cassandra Clare. As for favorite stories, I read constantly, like over 400 books a year. I just finished Divergent, 478 pages in 6.5 hours. I read fast, I read a lot, and I can’t even start with a list of my favorites.

TBQ: Wow, 400 a year? Daaammn! And I've been missing the years when I was able to hit 250!

I love Clare's books, too, and Foster's are on my list!

We've all fallen for a hero (or two, or three, or....ahem).  Tell us one hero that you've fallen for—who is he and what drew you to him?

S: Are you talking about real life or in books????  Lol…  Well I can answer that one pretty easily. I wrote Second Shield based off of another officer that I know. You have no idea how many times I wished that I was sixteen years younger!!! This guy, and I can’t tell you his name, oh God, the mortal shame I would be in if he ever saw this, is an incredible man. He looks at you when you talk, and listens. He opens doors for you, was always polite when needed to be, but he could bust your stones so quick if you let him. He is also a pretty damn good detective.

TBQ: Oh, wow . . . Is he taken? Are you sure you can't "accidentally" slip my number his way? ;) LOL

What's next-- Can you tell us a little bit about your upcoming releases or WIP?

S: Hopefully by the end of June I will be releasing another novel, Six Days of Memories. It is in the hands of my editor right now – and then needs to go through proofreaders before I can do formatting, but let me tell you, if I’m excited about Distorted Loyalty, I am freaking flying over the moon about Six Days of Memories. I love this story about Detective Natasha Foster! Here is a quick rundown of the plot. You have an intense detective who handles a car accident. In it you have the female passenger dead, a bag full of money and a body in the trunk. Oh, and the driver is a very hot sexy man who wakes up with no memory. Stay tuned for more on that! [Ooooh! Can't wait . . . ]

SPEED ROUND:

A day on a secluded island OR a day at the spa?
Secluded island – ANYDAY! [So you can hit 800 books a year instead of only 400? LOL]

Reading a spicy romance novel OR a sweet “my-heart-skips-a-beat” one?
Most times – Spicy!

Which would you rather have an affair with: a sexy highlander OR a devilishly handsome English lord?
Hahaha – Highlander – while he wearing a kilt!

Hot summer days OR cold winter nights?
HOT – HOT – HOT summer days!

Where would your dream house be: in the city, where all the action is OR nestled in the mountain where you can enjoy the quiet and the wilderness?
Neither – I’m a lover of the ocean – I don’t do ticks or traffic. [LOL! I never thought of offering the ocean as a choice; I'm so far away from it myself . . . ]

If you could live in any time period, past or future, which one would it be?
Future – I like technology – let’s see where it goes!

Cover Lover OR Blurb Fan?
Cover – you gotta grab my attention.

Steamy Novella OR Sweet Novel? (aka, Quickie or Slow Build Up?)
Sweet Novel – novellas are too short for my taste

Quick—name the one food that you cannot live without?
Coffee – I know it’s a drink- but they make other things out of coffee beans. J

And finally, tell us 3 unique/wacky/fun things about yourself:

  • I love muscle cars from the 60’s and 70’s.
  • If I wasn’t so happily married, I’d be a cougar and hunt all the sexy young men around here. [Hehe! Instead, you could send a few my way . . . You know, sharing is caring and all that!]
  • I love to have my sun roof open in my car and my radio blaring – you’d think I was 25 instead of 45!

TheBookQueen: Thanks so much for stopping by, Stacy, and please know that you are welcome back anytime! Do you have any questions for our readers—something to spark a good discussion? :)

Stacy: Thank you! I’ve loved being here today and answering all your questions and the scones were awesome!  Let’s see, something to spark a discussion… hmm…  Okay, how about this.

To the readers out there, which do you prefer: Do you want spicy love scenes all the time, or do you sometimes like the chemistry and the romance to fill your heart and mind without the rough and tumble act?

Distorted Loyalty by Stacy Eaton
Excerpt

A deep masculine voice reached my ear over my right shoulder and caused a shiver to go down my spine. “I’m not sure I like the idea of your son buying my daughter a present.”
I spun around to view the man who had just spoken so intimately in my ear and had to look up. Holy cow! This guy could be the twin to the actor who played the leader of the wolf pack on that hot vampire cable series; only this guy had short hair.
For a moment, I wasn’t sure if he was being serious or joking with me, but a sexy smile slid over his lusciously-full mouth, and I realized he was very much not upset.
I cocked my head to the side, “And what makes you think it is for your daughter?”
He grinned, “Because I can see the teenaged lust in his eyes.” I laughed at his comment and glanced at Josh and Jazzy. They were standing close, and she was holding bottles up for him to smell. The pure look of pleasure he wore on his features had nothing to do with what he smelled.
“I’m Grant.” He held his hand out for me to shake and I placed my palm into his. His hands were huge and swallowed up my petite mitts.
“I’m Rachel.” His hand spread warmth all the way up my arm. I had not realized how cold I was until I felt his heated skin.
He released my hand after a moment longer than necessary, and cleared his throat, “So that’s Josh?”
“Oh, I see she has mentioned him.” I absently picked up a bottle from in front of me and sniffed it. Yuck! It was pine. I blew air out of my nose to clean out my passages and found Grant chuckling at me.
“Not a fan of pine?” I took in his features as he spoke and realized I had never seen a man quite this gorgeous before. His beard ran along his strong jaw, not a heavy beard, but one that looked soft and just full enough to want to touch. His wavy hair was tussled over his forehead, from either the wind or his own hand running aimlessly through it. My fingers twitched to reach out.        “No, not at all, I’m a sweet and fruity girl.” I glanced back to the kids again and saw them talking softly, their heads bent towards each other. “Ah, to be young and in love again.”
“Does age really matter?” he queried.
“Well, isn’t it when you are young that those first moments are the most special? You know, that first look when your heart beats out of your chest?” Like mine was doing right that second.
He stepped closer, “What about those first words?”
“Or that first touch. You know those little electrical impulses that flow through your skin?” I said softly, remembering the warmth his handshake had sent up my arm.
“And the butterflies that fill your stomach,” he volleyed back as he stared me down with big soulful blue eyes.
“The same ones that take flight and steal your heart,” I whispered.
“But nothing compares to the anticipation of the first kiss.” He glanced at my lips and I realized that I was breathless as I flicked my tongue over my dry lips to wet them. My God! What was this man doing to me, and why was I allowing him to affect me in such a way?
I realized the moment I heard Josh yell that Grant and I had been lost in our own little world, and that the sounds of the shoppers and holiday music had all faded away. It was the sound of utter panic in my son’s voice that broke through the romantic moment and planted my feet back on the hard wooden planks of the store floor.
“Mom!” Josh shouted, and I spun toward him expecting to see a display all over the floor, but the look of sheer horror on his face directed at the front window caught my attention and I turned. “I think someone just got run over by a car,” he yelled and took off toward the door. I dropped the bottle I had in my hand on the nearest table and rushed to follow him.
The moment the door opened, I heard a woman yelling. I took off running between two cars parked outside the shop. I heard heavy footsteps behind me but didn’t turn to look.

A woman stood in the parking lot screaming and crying, and as I made my way around an SUV to a large blue construction van, I saw the unmoving feet of a woman lying on the ground under the chassis of the van. I dropped my purse to the ground and went to my knees beside the unconscious woman’s feet.

Thanks for stopping by today, Stacy! :) I had a great time with our interview, and I hope you enjoy your birthday; take a few extra scones to go with the cake!

~waving~ Hi Stacy....Happy Birthday! Loved your discussion about your book with TBQ. Course, I love your books too. Sooooo excited about your next release. As far as "sexy"scenes, I like the romance and the buildup to the scene, I don't necessarily need what goes where, and the details. The sexy buildup in Stacy's books is very enjoyable! Thanks for letting me use your space for my reviews TBQ, and thanks to Stacy for being here. Go grab some of her books for .99 while you can..great reads!
