[Kame's Review]: "Rusty Nailed"

Rusty Nailed by Alice Clayton
Publisher: Gallery Books (June 24, 2014)
Series: Cocktail, 2
Genre: Contemporary Romance

In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.

Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?

USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!

Wallbanger (#1) -- Kame

Kame's Review:

This is somewhere between a 3 1/2 and 4 for me...

Caroline and Simon have eased into a relationship, but where will their lives take them...

Normally when you read a sequel to a book with characters you love you come out loving them more - well that was not the case for me with this one. I do love Caroline and Simon but reading about their day to day life brought no closure for me, and it definitely did not bring me to love them more. If anything I sort of found the book boring and their friends annoying.

Did Caroline and Simon have some great banter - oh yes - they give great banter. Did I laugh out loud a few times - yes. What didn't happen was growth of the characters; when we left them in Wallbanger they both needed some emotional growth to move towards life as a couple and while they physically spent time together at the end of the book I did not feel they were at an emotional place that gave me the warm fuzzies that a HEA was possible. Simon showed me the greatest growth and revealed so much more of himself than he had in Wallbanger. Unfortunately this was a single POV book and it was Caroline's so I really missed Simon's POV.

I am on the fence if I will read the next book. I paid over my comfort zone for this book and wished I had found a way to loan it instead. The $7+ I spent was way too much for the story I read and the next in the series is priced similarly - I might not take the chance twice.

3 1/2 - 4 STARS!

Thanks for the review, Kame! :) Ouch! $7 for an ebook? Why do publishers/authors do that? *sigh* I'm sorry that hear this one did not live up to the expectations of the first book. Perhaps the next one will be better? And wait for it to go on sale?

Have you read Alice Clayton before? Also, what is the most you will pay for an ebook?

Enjoy!

OK, I bought the paperback at Target for I think $12. I hope I love it more than you did! I really liked Wallbanger! I guess we will see!

I hope you do too! I expected something as good or better than Wallbanger and well sad when it didn't happen.
I am finding that is me with some sequels lately - I didn't even finish Emma Chase's

I generally like a conclusion of the romance in 1 book & for subsequent books to be about different couples. I am not a fan of continuing into the next book.

I loved the first, it was very funny ! I'm not certain I would buy the next instalment, there are not many reasons why I would, I was left satisfied with the first and yes, 7$ is a big price for an e-book. Maybe if it's on sale one day ;)
