Not the Boss's Baby by Sarah M. Anderson
Publisher: Harlequin Desire (September 1, 2014)
Series: The Beaumont Heirs, 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Category)

What the boss wants...

As the oldest son, Chadwick Beaumont has sacrificed everything for the Beaumont's company, but he swore he'd never follow in his father's philandering footsteps. So, for years, he's dutifully kept his distance from the temptation outside his office door--his beautiful secretary Serena Chase.

But now everything has changed. The family business is in jeopardy. His personal life is in shambles. And his sexy assistant is suddenly single--and flirting. Chadwick is tired of doing what's expected. It's time for him to go after what he wants. And what he wants is Serena--even if she's expecting another man's child.

Kame's Review:

Serena can't believe the secure life she has worked so hard for is in danger, all from a positive pregnancy test. She knows what it means to grow up with nothing and that will not be the future for her child. Chadwick is tired of all the demands of his family and his estranged wife who won't settle their divorce. The only constant support in his life these past years has been his executive assistant Serena.

I liked Serena and I think her character was written very well. She articulated all the uncertainty of growing up on welfare very well to Chadwick. Chadwick lived a childhood of privileged but not a lot of love. The writing helped me appreciate the pressure he was under. The feelings they had for each other seemed to have been under the surface for years, but it took their personal situations for a spark to ignite.

The plot is rather simple, but there are subtle points that will be carried through to other books. This is a Harlequin Desire book so the focus is more on their attraction and "desire" for each other; however the limited intimate scenes are borderline steamy. The ending was quick and not as satisfying for me as other books I have read by this author; however since this is a series I think we may see more glimpses at this couples HEA in other books. (I hope so!)

4 STARS!

Thanks for the review, Kame! :) You know I'm a fan of Sarah's books, so these are on my list.

Have you read Sarah M. Anderson before? Do you have a certain Harlequin line that you prefer? Or a troupe?

Enjoy!
