[Kame's Review]: "The Deal"

The Deal by Elle Kennedy
Publisher: Elle Kennedy (February 24, 2015)
Series: Off-Campus, 1
Genre: NA Contemporary

She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy...

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice... even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

...and it’s going to be oh so good.

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

Kame's Review:

Hannah has a crush but she can't figure out how to talk to him. Funny since she seems be able to do fine in Ethics; acing the midterm over half of the class failed. Garrett is the hockey captain that can't afford to let him GPA slip, he must pass the Ethics makeup and the girl across the auditorium is the perfect one to tutor him. Hannah has no interest in tutoring Garrett she is too busy as it is, but it seems Garrett has a deal.

I am going to be honest this is a NA book set on a college campus. NA is not a favorite genre of mine - but Kindle Gal and Melissa Cutler raved about this book so I bought it.

What I liked - I liked Garrett. His take no prisoner's attitude, his brutal honesty. The parts of the book from his point of view were fantastic in letting us know more about the guy he was within, the one he rarely showed anyone, and actually the one he discovered existed. Even though Hannah was a little weaker a character for me I enjoyed their banter and I truly felt a connection between these two characters.

What was not my favorite was the same thing with most NA books I read. I just have a hard time losing myself in characters that could be my children. I find I am mothering them in my head. I also saw the conflict coming from chapters ahead, but I will say how Garrett and Hannah worked past that is my favorite scene in the book.

This is the first book in a new series, and I just found out that my favorite secondary character is the hero in the next book - which means if I hear good things I will probably pick that one up too.

4 STARS!

I like some NA and I'm willing to try new to me authors to see which ones I'll end up sticking with. I like the premise so maybe I'll give this one a go.
