Zane Redmond is on his way home from a long deployment. He hasn't seen his brothers in a long time, and his father -- if you could call him that -- passed away while he was overseas. His plan: a quick check in and then back to Fort Bragg and re-upping. The military suited him. His brothers want him back in the family business. The "fugitive recovery" business, better know as bounty hunters. The family fractured when their Mom passed away, and his father sank into a bottle. A job gone bad had broken Zane and he escaped to the army. His brother Quinn, former SEAL, now runs the business with his brother, Rush, who had spent eight years in jail for a crime he didn't commit. Their relationship has always been contentious, now more than ever. He finally agrees to do one more job for the company and his brothers, then he's gone.
Iris Callahan and her sister Jamie were abandoned by their Mom when Jamie was four months old and Iris was eighteen. She struggled for years to try and make a good life, but fell in with a guy she thought loved her, and was caught delivering drugs for him. Jamie is in foster care and Iris skipped bail, not wanting to testify for the cartel which meant certain death. She was working in a bar, intent on trying to get Jamie back, but unfortunately has been found by a bounty hunter. He dresses in suits, is gorgeous, and seems to listen to her. But if she returns, she'll lose Jamie forever. Zane becomes sympathetic, and agrees to keep her safe until things can be figured out. His brothers are not comfortable with this plan, but despite all the mess in their life they love each other and will stick together.
Lots of action, suspense, and a slow but fascinating seduction. Iris and Zane are hot together . . .and though neither wants it, it's becoming more than casual sex.
