Whatcha Reading? (83)

A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and I will share my brief thoughts on books that I read during the previous week.

January 22nd - 28th:

Playing the Player by Amy Andrews

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Rating = 4 Stars

  • Book 3, easily read as a standalone
  • Set in Australia
  • Rugby star
  • High school teacher
  • Both are young though -- 23, if I'm not mistaken, so NA-ish
  • Fun
  • Very sexy
    • Shower fun
    • Car scene
    • Locker room shenanigans
  • Will definitely read the previous 2 books
  • Releases Jan 30th

Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Audiobook from Overdrive
Narrator: Angela Dawe
Narration Rating: 4 1/2 Stars
Rating: 4 1/2 Stars

  • Love love love this series
    • Fantastic on audio
    • Must be read in order though!
  • Slow burn between these two
    • Loved that especially since Sienna is a bit younger (in age -- she's had enough shit in her life to make her more mature than most in their 30s)
      • She's around 20 or 21, if I recall
      • He's older but still, I think, just under 30
  • She's Psy (and very powerful...); he's the alpha of the wolves
  • Loved seeing Sascha and Lucas finally have their baby
    • Loved seeing glimpses of other couples, too
  • Loved the side story of Lara and Walker; wanted more of them, though
  • What I love about this series is how deeply connected and complex it is
    • Every story is as much about the couple as the overall plot moving forward, new twists, new info, etc.

Favorite quote:

“You’re in my every breath and every thought, intertwined so deep inside me that love’s not a strong enough word—you have my devotion, your name branded on my soul, my wolf yours to command. A hundred years? It’ll never be enough. I want eternity.”

Us by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
eBook (bought)
Rating =  4 1/2 Stars

  • Bi hero + gay hero
  • Hockey players
  • New adult age (around 23-ish)
  • Friends-to-lovers
  • Continuation of their story from HIM; must both be read, and in order
  • Relationship angst and some personal issues
    • Emotional
  • BUT also some great fun parts
    • Especially from Blake (his book, M/F, comes out Tues!)
  • Also hot as hell
  • Highly recommend; I read HIM via Audio last year and it's fantastic that way
  • Both HIM and US are still on sale for $0.99 each!

I shared quite a few quotes on Twitter.

Favorite quote:

The way I feel about Ryan Wesley…it’s something I thought existed only in the movies. He’s my other half. We complement each other in more ways than I can count. When he’s in the same room, I’m focused on him, and when he’s gone I walk around missing him. There’s an old quote my mother once painted on a ceramic platter. Love is friendship set on fire. I get it now.
