Whatcha Reading? (97)

A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and I will share my brief thoughts on books that I read during the previous week.

April 30th - May 6th:

Enemies with Benefits by Annika Martin and Joanna Chambers

Rating = 4 Stars
Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Goodreads

  • Prequel novella -- literally a 60 page prologue to their full story (out May 15th).
    • No HEA or HFN yet but it IS a good lead in to their story and grabbed my attention!
  • Enemies to lovers
    • Will is seeking revenge for the men in his unit that were killed when a mission went to shit, working with the US government he's supposed to kill the man who sold their secrets to the enemy
    • Kit is the bodyguard to said man -- except there's more to his story, he's British and working with the British government undercover
  • This tease gives a good look at their chemistry -- damn!
  • I need the full length novel ASAP!

Faking It by Christine d'Abo

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Goodreads
eARC -- Releases Tues
Rating = 3 1/2 Stars
  • Fake relationship, ahoy!
  • Bar owner + rich boy
  • Decent, quick read, but ultimately nothing much stood out to me, good or bad
    • I was able to easily put the book down for a while, didn't have that "OMG, I NEED TO BE READING RIGHT NOW!" feeling when I put it  down
    • Really have nothing much to say about it, couldn't even come up with a full review for it
    • Had a similar response to book 1; maybe it's d'Abo's writing? I'm not sure.
  • Still, I'm curious about the third book, which will be a second chance romance
  • Not a bad read, fairly low on drama and complications, fairly good on the heat level

Crazy For You by Rina Gray
eARC -- Releases Tues
Rating  = 1 Star

  • Oh this book . . . Yeah, I did NOT like it. At all.
  • Hot mess of annoying shit
    • Heroine's weight
    • The sex scenes
    • Crazy stalker
    • Horrible family suddenly forgiven
  • And when it wasn't pissing me off it was just boring to read

Shield of Winter by Nalini Singh

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Audio
Goodreads
Audiobook from Overdrive
Narrator = Angela Dawe
Narration rating = 4 - 4.5 Stars
Rating = 5 Stars

  • DAMN THESE ARROWS THEY KEEP GIVING ME ALL THE FEELS
  • Loved Vasic and Ivy's story -- so many feels, so great to watch it build
    • Fantastic sexual tension
      • No sex until nearly 75% and I did not care one bit -- and that's rare, if you know me and my love of dirty in my romances!
      • Fit these two, plus their explorations leading up were so delicious and teasing that I didn't miss the actual sex early on
      • Also, LOL at Vasic's porting during intimacy
  • I really don't want to give away spoilers or plot points since this is nearly the end of the series, but just know that I also loved the plot continuation here, all the things that are revealed and the set up for future books
  • Have I mentioned often enough that this is one of my favorite series EVER?

Kiss of the Irish by Lauren Hawkeye

Kindle | NOOK | Kobo
Goodreads
eARC -- Out 5/15
Rating = 1.5 Stars

  • Another book that disappointed and annoyed me
  • Had high hopes -- my weakness is Ireland and Irish heroes, so this one was calling my name! But it didn't follow through on the promise and I was left unsatisfied
  • Also: MIA Cock Piercing.
  • I have Thoughts (aka, another ranty review -- hope you guys are enjoying my rants lately! If not, too bad. :P). Review should go up Monday.

I loved book 2 and since Overdrive had 3 available, decided to pick it up. Eden does really dark suspense, but very hot, too.
