A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and I will share my brief thoughts on books that I read during the previous week.
June 11th - 17th
Cold-Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas
Ebook -- Overdrive
Kindle | NOOK | Kobo Goodreads |
- Decided to finally read this one since I read book 2 (last year) and then 3 this year
- Sadly this is not only my least favorite in this series but of any Kleypas I've read
- It wasn't BAD, and it had its moments!
- But it didn't really pull me in from the start, like Kleypas usually does
- Didn't really connect to the hero or heroine
- Hell, I liked West's character more and felt like I knew more about him (which isn't saying much -- though, related, he better get a story because I neeeeed it!)
- Romance didn't even take off until 40% -- and then it came out of nowhere
- Actually, the entire "romance" came be described that way; was like InstaLove except it didn't come on at the start of the book, which makes it almost worse
- Considering how against love and marriage the hero was, his last minute declaration (literally, like mere pages from the end) did NOT fit, especially since I never felt/saw the romance building between the two
- He says some sweet, swoony things a few times, which I enjoyed, but since I wasn't feeling their romance, those moments lacked the punch they could have had
- Overall: An okay read -- it's Kleypas, after all -- but I was underwhelmed by it. Not her best, and I would definitely not point a new reader to this book!

Fall With Me by J. Lynn
Audiobook from Overdrive

Narration rating = 4 Stars
Rating = 4 1/2 Stars
June Royal Pick
- Definitely my favorite in the series
- Had more problems with the stories and character's actions in books 1-3, but this one was really, really good and the few minor things I had didn't really hold me up
- He's ex-military, now a cop
- She works at the bar and is an artist
- They've known each other since childhood; she's had a crush on him for years
- Sweet/swoony romance moments
- Angsty/feels moments
- Loved that when she would have pushed him away during the Black Moment of the book, he didn't let her and made her confront and talk through her shit
- THE SEX THO
- Hot. As. HELL.
- My only complaint? He promised to use her vibrator on her but never did in the book. Gimme more toy scenes, please!
- Narrator: Good, I'll definitely listen to more from her.
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean
Releases June 27th

Rating = 5 Stars

This is seriously an angst-fest from beginning to end and I loved it! Just be prepared with ice cream and tissues. No, seriously! It's beautiful but heartaching. Sensual and emotional. MacLean did a fantastic job with a story that honestly, tackled by almost any other author, could have went downhill really, really fast.

Since I was still waiting on other audio holds to come in and this one was available, I decided to continue the series with Nick's story.
Almost done (I've been doing a ton of heavy house cleaning this week, which means even more audiobook time than usual) and I'm really enjoying their story! There's a thread of thoughts/quotes on my Twitter HERE.

This was the winner of this week's #TBQsTBR poll (runs every Sunday on my Twitter), and my first Andrews book. Very much enjoying it.
First time reading Parker, let's see how this goes!
