A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and I will share my brief thoughts on books that I read during the previous week.
July 9th - 15th:
Scotsmen Prefer Blondes by Sara Ramsey
Rating = 1 Star
Kindle | NOOK | Kobo Goodreads |
Ugh.
I thought this one had some potential for sparks between these two, and chemistry. But ultimately I hated the hero and was irritated to the very end. He was such an ass, especially to her, and that never changed. I never saw redemption or groveling or change, not even by the end. I didn't have much feelings towards her one way or the other, but I loathed him.
Did I hate every single word/moment of this book? No. I highlighted some parts that I liked. But as the book went on -- and on and on and on -- and he still hadn't changed in any way, my projected rating went from my original "okay--3 stars" to "meh--2 stars" to my final decision of marking this as a 1 star read for me. I just can't get past how horrible he was -- little things that just added up -- and NEVER changed. I can deal with an asshole hero (to a degree, of course) if he changes, if he grows, if he grovels like his fucking life depends on it (because it should). But I didn't get any of that here. And honestly, I skimmed the last 15%, but I assure you, I didn't skim past his groveling. It simply was. not. there.

The Duke's Perfect Wife by Jennifer Ashley
Audiobook from Overdrive

Narration rating = 4 Stars
Rating = 4 1/2 Stars
July Royal Pick
- Second chance!
- He's the one always looking out for his family, so devoted, so fierce; it was his time to find love. Or rather, find it again, for good. :)
- I'm just going to say this: THE BEDCHAMBER JERK OFF SCENE
- Also, the photographs of him that play a part here -- I so wanted them to be real because I could see them vividly and damn, they were hot. :D
- And then later her taking new ones, just for her to keep!
- THE. CHAIR. AND. THE. MIRROR. SCENE.
- God, I loved these two. And I'm reminded that I adore Ashley's historicals.
- Loved seeing all the previous couples / future characters again
- My one complaint was the push of "Oh no, I [Hart] had such dark urges with my previous mistresses, I am a bad person!"
- Can we not? It was consensual -- I HOPE TO FUCK IT WAS OTHERWISE HART CAN GO FUCK HIMSELF -- so stop with this "It was dark and wrong to do what I did with them". No kink shaming. Especially vague kink shaming, since it's not even "explained" (kinda) until 90%
- No half-assed kink please, especially when it's only there as something the character is, maybe not ashamed but uncomfortable, in having done.
- Also, it's just this very mild, vague desire to have her submit to him
- Narrator: Great. I love Dawe, and she does historical well, too.
- The actual audiobook quality though -- I had an issue
- At the end of each chapter, there would be this loud, clicking sound before you'd hear "Chapter _"
- Every. Damn. Time.
- Never had that happen with any other audiobook I've used on this app so IDK. But man it was annoying and the sound made me cringe
- Otherwise, good audiobook, definitely worth a listen
Chasing Destiny by Megan Erickson
Releases July 21st
Kindle Goodreads |
- Second chance -- they were briefly together as teens before they were separated
- Interesting world -- not one I would have thought I'd like (zombie werewolves reeking havoc in a dystoian world with the last few remaining un-tainted werewolves trying to just survive every damn day)
- Long time fan of Erickson's writing
- Nash and Bay's story was great
- Definitely brought the heat -- these two couldn't keep their hands off each other
- Loved seeing other characters again
- Still want Jude and G's story. Maybe a novella? *begs*
- But also, Vaughn is trying to steal my heart with his sarcastic ways
- Cannot wait to see what's next in this series!
Rocky Mountain Home by Vivian Arend
Kindle | NOOK | Kobo Goodreads |
Rating = 4 Stars
- She's a blogger, he works with ranches (genetics for breeding programs, mostly)
- They had a hot one night stand while they were both passing through the same town
- A sexy picture of him on her blog lead to them finding each other again months later -- and good thing, too, because she has some news for him...
- Some very sweet, cute moments between these two
- HE SHAVES HER LEGS FOR HER, OKAY?
- AND CHECKS THE DOCTOR'S HANDS
- Okay, that one needs context to understand but just trust me on it!
- Definite chemistry
- Arend knows how to bring the heat
- Made me want to go back and catch up on the books I missed; forgot how I enjoy this family / Arend's writing
- Since I didn't get a chance to read the last, um, 6 or so books before this one, I admit I felt like I was a bit lost at times with what went down in the past and who was paired up with who. Not enough to ruin the book, so if you want, you can still jump in here! Just know that this is a giant-ass family and since most of the family is paired off already, it's a lot of people to keep track of. :)

Really enjoying this one; it's been a while since I read any from Balogh. I actually picked it up because of the narrator -- I adore Landor's narration. Story is also good; starts out with forced proximity thanks to a snow storm while they were both traveling on the same stretch of road. He's titled, she's a school teacher at a girls' finishing school.

Finally reading this week's #TBQsTBR pick. I've heard so many good (dirty) things about this one. 😉
So what are YOU currently reading?
Enjoy!
