Pat's Review: Hold You Close

Hold You Close by Melanie Harlow and Corinne Michaels
Publisher: Love & Olives Ink, LLC (August 19, 2018)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Dual 1st POV

From NYT Bestseller Corinne Michaels & USA Today Bestseller Melanie Harlow, comes a second chance standalone romance.

Ian Chase broke my heart at seventeen, and I’ve spent the last eighteen years hating him for it.

He makes it easy, with his smart mouth and playboy lifestyle—which I unfortunately have to observe since he lives behind me. Every time I see him climbing out of his pool, practically naked and unreasonably sexy, my blood boils.

I’ve always loved to loathe him.

I never planned to need him.

***

London Parish is my little sister’s best friend, not that it stopped me from falling for her.

Our history is complicated. The only thing we have in common is being godparents to my sister’s three adorable kids—until our lives are changed in one tragic moment.

Now we’re trying to raise the children we love, mourn an unthinkable loss, and fight an undeniable attraction.

My life is already upside-down, and the last thing I need is for old feelings to resurface.

Because I’ll never be able to keep her, no matter how hard I try to hold her close.

Pat's Review:

London Parish at seventeen was madly in love with Ian Chase. He was her best friend’s older brother and she never dreamed he even saw her. They have a magical night together, she gives herself heart and soul to him and he tells her beautiful things. But the next day, he breaks her heart into pieces. For the next seventeen years they can barely tolerate being in the same room together. All she feels is anger toward him. But there is a fine line between love and hate.

Ian owns the hottest club in Vegas called Veil. He loves the lifestyle, the women and the money. Unfortunately, London lives close enough she witnesses his wild parties, and women up close and personal. He teases that she is and old maid living with her cat. It seems mutual anger is their lifestyle. Until, tragically, Sabrina and David, her husband, are gone. London has lost her best friend, and Ian a sister he loved deeply. They leave behind three beautiful and heartbroken children, Chris, Morgan and the youngest Ruby. London is shocked when the will gives Ian custody. Somehow they agree to help each other keep these children safe and loved, so much more important than their petty feelings. Life slowly turns into a routine, a crazy one, but it’s theirs. In the process both Ian and London realize they have feelings that aren’t totally buried. Ian is keeping a secret from that long ago beautiful night. He did something to keep her from making a mistake he felt she would regret for the rest of her life. Can they get past the heartbreak, cruel words and loss of trust to find their hearts? They both love the children and want to make them happy.

I enjoyed reading this contemporary romance, although the bickering and anger of the first few chapters did get on my nerves. The children seemed real with emotions that I would certainly expect. Once the heat between London and Ian starts, it sizzles. I would like to read more books that Ms. Michaels and Ms. Harlow collaborate on. They have magic.
