Guest Post with Annabeth Albert: Adventure Romances, Arctic Heat, and a Giveaway!

Annabeth Albert has a new contemporary M/M romance out today, Arctic Heat! To celebrate, she's got a great guest post for you, as well as an excerpt and a giveaway. Enjoy! :)

Adventure Romance List

Hi! I’m so excited to be here on one of my favorite blogs today celebrating the release of ARCTIC HEAT, my newest release in the Frozen Hearts series set in Alaska.  As with the other two books in the series, this one stands alone fine—there’s only the briefest of mentions of the prior books’ couples and no spoilers. This is my opposites-attract, odd couple roommates, snowbound romance as a seasoned ranger finds himself paired with a newbie volunteer for the winter season where they’ll be snowed in together at a remote Alaska state park. It’s an adventure for both heroes! And since I have found so many of my autobuy authors through this blog and so many new reads through the deals threads, I wanted to bring you some recs for other “adventure” type romances you might enjoy. These high-octane reads keep your pulse pounding on multiple levels and often feature memorable settings in addition to take-charge characters confronted with challenging situations.  Here’s some to get you started:

  • Lisa Henry’s ANHAGA. This fantasy romance with a smart-mouthed bisexual narrator and a virgin magical hero who is the key to almost everything is also an epic road trip romance. There’s danger, intriguing secondary characters, and plot twists a plenty! (m/m)
  • Kris Ripper’s RUNAWAY ROADTRIP. Another roadtrip romantic adventure, this one a little slower, more contemporary and the danger is less external and more emotional. However, the fun factor of this one can’t be denied, and it’s absolutely an adventure from start to finish. Fans of adventurous rom com movies will love this one!  (m/m)
  • Zoe Archer’s WARRIOR. I’ve rec’d this one so many times over the years and with good reason. From the sweeping Mongolia setting to the rugged alpha hero to the strong, fearless heroine, to the fast-paced plot, this one has well-earned it’s spot on my keeper shelf.  (m/f)
  • Pamela Clare (UNLAWFUL CONTACT) is one of the masters of m/f adventure romance with suspense and strong heroines and masterful use of sensual tension to keep the pacing crisp. You can’t go wrong with almost any of hers, but my favorite remains UNLAWFUL CONTACT with its con-on-the-run in a race against time plot along with a delicious, heartfelt reunion romance.  (m/f)
  • Cara McKenna’s UNBOUND.  Like RUNAWAY ROADTRIP, this isn’t a romantic suspense novel, but it’s definitely an adventure of the heart and soul. The sweeping Scottish setting, the brooding, wounded hero, the self-discovery, and the sense of needing to leave home to find something about oneself make this an excellent adventure romance. (m/f)
  • KJ Charles’s PROPER ENGLISH. Who says rugged adventure heroes get all the fun? This caper contains two strong heroines with a backdrop of the English countryside at a house party. And the adventure is all in the intrigue and secrets being kept and the race to uncover them all! (f/f)
  • Anna Zabo’s REVERB. A rock tour is an excellent setting for an adventure and add in the danger of an unknown stalker, and you have the start of a tense, emotional rock star romance that has more than a dash of adventure to it. Book Three in an excellent series where the adventure of being on tour leads to love in unexpected places. (m/f, trans rep)
  • Alyssa Cole’s AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION. Spies always make great adventure romance main characters, and this civil war era romance with two spies intent on their mission to help the union leads to impeccable tension and pacing. The danger at every turn and high stakes kept me turning the pages late into the night! (m/f)
    • Bonus rec: Alyssa Cole’s THAT COULD BE ENOUGH is an excellent example of a romance where the adventure comes to the stoic main character whether they want it or not. I love whirlwinds that bring a sense of adventure even when staying in place! (f/f)
  • Suzanne Brockmann’s HARVARD’S EDUCATION. No way could I do a list of adventure romances without including the queen of them. So many of hers qualify, especially one of my other favorites, OUT OF CONTROL, with its jungle setting and race against the elements. But I picked this one because it’s one of her lesser known ones and probably top five of my favorites from her. Both main characters are super strong, determined, resourceful people and I do love a self-rescuing heroine! (m/f)
  • Jordan Hawk’s entire Whyborne and Griffin series which starts with WIDDERSHINS. Each book is its own adventure with unforgettable secondary characters, settings, and twists and turns. This is adventure romance at its finest with the mix of emotions and danger and high stakes. (m/m)

I hope you enjoy this list of ten adventure romances to add to your TBR! Got others that I should be reading, any pairing? Let me know! I love to read new-to-me authors and love adventure in all forms! I hope you check out ARCTIC HEAT as well! Thanks so much and happy reading!

Arctic Heat by Annabeth Albert
Publisher: Carina Press (September 23rd, 2019)
Series: Frozen Hearts, 3
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Queer, M/M)

A lasting connection needs more than simply surviving a winter together—they’ll have to outsmart danger, let down their defenses and open their hearts.

Owen Han has a fresh lease on life—he’s kicked cancer’s ass and is roaring through his bucket list. The former investment banker hopes to find his next challenge in Alaska, volunteering alongside park rangers and fulfilling his childhood dreams of snowy winters and rustic life. Of course, those dreams did tend to feature big strapping mountain men in vivid detail…

Ranger Quilleran Ramsey would like to be anywhere other than dealing with newbie volunteers. And really, the only thing he needs less than a green volunteer “partner” is the flirty attentions of a buff city boy who doesn’t look ready to last a week, let alone an Alaskan winter. They’re all wrong for each other, even if Quill’s traitorous body enjoys the flirting more than it should.

As the weeks pass, the two snowbound men give in to temptation. But can their seasonal romance last until spring? For them to have a future together, each will have to trust the other…while hoping that the harsh elements and omnipresent dangers don’t destroy what happiness they’ve found in the moment.

Cards fluttered to the floor as Owen looped his arms around Quill’s shoulders, pulled him closer. Unlike their first kiss, he seemed content to let Quill lead, let Quill plunder his mouth until they were both breathing hard.
“Oh, hello.” He grinned up at Quill, and this would be the perfect moment to pull away, regain his sanity, but Quill didn’t. Couldn’t. Was rooted to the damn couch, awkward angle looming over Owen and all.
“Sor—”
“Don’t you dare apologize. If I said I was cold, would you warm me up?”
“How cold?” Quill, who didn’t flirt, was doing a damn good approximation of it, voice still low and husky and the word no nowhere near his lips.
“Very.” Owen pulled him down for another kiss, and Quill let himself slide that much closer to hell. And if he was going to be damned, if he was going to let go of professionalism for the sake of a kiss and try to fly instead of sticking to safe zones, then it was going to be a good kiss, one that let him taste as much of Owen as he’d been craving.
Slowing down from his initial attack, he took his time, exploring the curve of Owen’s full lower lip, tongue detouring to trace his devastating dimples before seeking entry to his mouth. As their tongues tangled together, Owen hooked a leg around Quill’s calf, urging him with his hands and legs to fall more completely on top of him.
“Fuck.” Quill had to groan as their bodies met, torsos aligning, Owen wiggling about until their groins were rubbing right along with their tongues, a subtle rocking that mimicked the slow dance of their mouths. Quill might have not spent the past twenty years entirely celibate, but it had been so damn long since he’d made out like this, kissed and kissed with no end in sight, no end goal, that he felt like parched August earth, needing Owen like a garden needed rain, soaking up everything he had to give.
