Today Erin McLellen has a special rec list for you guys. Let's just say toys are involved... ;) Speaking of toys, don't miss out on STOCKING STUFFERS, Erin's latest release, which is full of all sorts of sexy fun. Trust me: you need this book in your life this holiday season!
My Favorite Sex Toy Sex Scenes
There’s nothing better than a good romance sex scene, and when sex toys are integral to the intimacy and fun, even better! Sex toys can increase eroticism, closeness, and emotion between partners, and seeing this reality reflected in my favorite romances is validating.
My newest release, Stocking Stuffers, is a queer m/f erotic romance novella with a badass bisexual sex toy saleswoman. It was a prefect opportunity to feature sex toys in every sex scene. And I mean every one! Sex toys are essential for some people to get off. They’re part of many people’s sex lives. It was fun to get to write a story in which sex toys upped the intimacy, the playfulness, and the vulnerability between the characters.
Some of my top romance reads feature sex toys. Here’s a list of my favorites, in no particular order. Warning, the below post includes minor sex scene spoilers. I also asked my Twitter followers for their favorite sex scenes with toys and there’s a link to that thread at the end of the post if you want even more recommendations!
Due Diligence by Anna Zabo
In Due Diligence, the main characters, Fazil and Todd, are high school sweethearts who meet up again later in life in a business setting. All of their sex scenes sizzle hot, but there is one scene that is especially inspiring. And nerdy, which I love. It starts with a Dungeons and Dragons sex chart and ends with dragon dildo and a facial. Perfectly playful, sexy, and meaningful for the characters.
Haven by Rebekah Weatherspoon
This is an intense book about a heroine, Claudia, and hero, Shep, who go through a deadly trauma together. They find healing in each other as they explore a D/s relationship. The sex scenes in this book are just as intense as the other plot pieces, and one particular scene that includes a butt plug, a ball gag, bondage, and a flogger is no exception. It’s hot and powerful.
Three-Way Split by Elia Winters
Most of Winters’s books are a veritable treasure trove of sex toy goodness, but none more than Three-Way Split, a polyamorous romance between the heroine, Hannah, and heroes, Ben and Michael. Hannah owns an adult novelty store, so sex toys are a part of her everyday life. There are many wonderful sex toy scenes here, including one with a paddle, one with a sex swing, and one where Ben opens Michael with a dildo, but my favorite is a double penetration scene with the three of them that involves using two different dildos on Hannah. Lucky girl.
For Real by Alexis Hall
For Real is probably my favorite romance novel of all time. It’s a D/s romance with a young, inexperienced Dom—Toby—and a hardened, older sub—Laurie. The story flips and subverts a lot of erotic romance tropes in especially delicious ways. There’s a wonderful scene that takes place at a dinner at Oxford that involves a vibrating butt plug. The negotiation of this scene is actually my favorite part, which just goes to show that sexual tension and chemistry before sex is what makes some scenes go from good to great.
Man Vs. Durain by Jackie Lau
This book is full of tropey fake boyfriend goodness, but my favorite thing about it is that the heroine, Valerie, can’t orgasm without a vibrator. This is a reality for so many people with clits. Valerie has had trouble explaining this to partners in the past, but she’s able to open up and trust Peter. What follows are some very moving and intimate sex scenes where she teaches him how to use the vibrator, and he shows her just how sexy that really is.
The King of Bourbon Street by Thea De Salle
This romance between heiress, Arianna, and hotel chain mogul, Sol, is full of power play, intensity, and humor. Arianna is one of the funniest and earthiest heroines I’ve read in recent memory. My favorite sex scene in this book involves a Sybian saddle, which is basically a huge, vibrating saddle with “penis thingies” attachmented. Sol makes Arianna straddle the Sybian and answer questions about herself while withholding her orgasm until he’s ready. It’s playful and passionate and incredibly fun.
Rule Breaker by Lily Morton
In Rule Breaker, Dylan falls for his boss, Gabe, who is a total commitment-phobe. Morton has one of my favorite voices in the game, and this rom com is full of hilarious banter. All of the sex is super hot and emotional, because Dylan and Gabe are so wonderful for each other, but one particular scene stands out in my mind. For Christmas, Gabe visits Dylan at his family’s home and privately gifts him a Fleshlight. Gabe uses the Fleshlight on Dylan as Dylan blows him. Their chemistry and the newness of the toy makes the scene super intense.
In Her Court by Tamsen Parker
The heroines of this adult summer camp novel—Willa and Van—are hot, hot, hot together. This book has a lot of my favorite tropes, including brother’s best friend. Willa and Van’s intimate scenes are full of communication, understanding, and discovery, including one particularly hot scene with a vibrator.
Misbehaving by Tiffany Reisz
This fun romance is about a sex blogger, Beatriz, and the one-that-got-away, Ben. Beatrice must review a sex-position manual the week of her sister’s wedding, but needs a partner to help her do it. Enter Ben. My favorite sex scene in the book is a double penetration scene that makes very good use of a dildo. Beatriz is a sex positive heroine who knows what works for her in the bedroom—my favorite type of heroine.
“Giving” by Charlotte Stein
“Giving” is a novella in Stein’s Four Erotic Novellas. In it, Clarissa’s boyfriend, Oliver, asks for three wishes for his birthday. The wishes push Clarissa into domination, showing her she enjoys being the boss. The story culminates in her fucking him using a strap-on. It’s very sweet and sexy.
A Gentleman in the Streets by Alisha Rai
This book has my favorite heroine of all time, Akira, with a great hero, Jacob. It’s very much a bad girl vs. sweet boy romance, and she positively corrupts him. During one particularly memorable scene, Akira invites Jacob to an orgy at her mansion (she has a lot of mansion orgies), and while they watch a scene take place on stage (one that uses a clit clamp), Akira puts a nipple clamp on both her and Jacob. The simplicity of the clamps mixed with the raunchiness of the scene make this one a knockout.

Sasha Holiday is so over the holidays after getting left at the altar last Christmas Eve. But as the marketing maven for Lady Robin’s Intimate Implements, she’s stuck not-so-merrily pitching naughty toys at a romance book club’s Christmas party. Her loathing of the yuletide only intensifies as a snowstorm rolls in and traps her at the Winterberry Inn. Stranded with her is Perry Winters—a hot bearded book club member trimmed in flannel and tattoos.
Perry’s a romantic with an unerring belief in the magic of the season, and he recognizes a Christmas miracle when he sees it. Brave, smart, and confident—Sasha Holiday is a gift. And the gifts keep coming when she suggests they pass the time with some no-strings fun. After all, she has a big bag of toys that would make even Santa want to stay in bed on Christmas Eve.
But the frisky festivities turn complicated as feelings spark between Sasha and Perry. Perry wants to see Sasha once the snow clears, but Sasha is reluctant to take the relationship sleigh ride again. Perry will have to show her that love is more than just a holiday feeling.

Stocking Stuffers by Erin McLellan
Sasha fell back onto Perry’s bed, her stomach full of laughter. Perry kneeled next to her and popped a chestnut past her lips. She nipped his fingers lightly, then chewed the sweet nut.
She’d never had chestnuts before, and she had no idea if they were always so amazing or if it was because Perry was feeding them to her.
He followed his fingers with his lips, kissing her mouth, her chin, down to her throat before sitting up and eating a chestnut of his own.
They’d managed to socialize with the other Winterberry guests for about twenty minutes. Twenty minutes of feverish, festive eye-fucking. Now, they finished their bowl of chestnuts, sharing kisses and laughter over nothing at all.
Perry’s room was similar to hers, except it was on the corner of the house, so it had double the windows. His canopy bed had rainbow-colored Christmas lights wrapped around the posts. The Christmas tree in the corner of his room was huge with thick branches full of spindly needles. His whole room smelled of clean, bitter evergreen, and his skin smelled like smoky cedar.
The Fancy Fleshstroker and her black silky thong were on top of an antique dresser, and they stood out among the twee decorations, glaring in their filthiness.
Perry’s mouth landed on the edge of her jaw, and she tipped her head back, gasping.
“We need my roller bag.”
“The one full of Christmas miracles?” he asked, smiling against her neck.
“That’s the ticket.”
“I’ll get it.” He jumped up off the bed and jogged into the adjoining bathroom and, she assumed, into the Blue Spruce Room. He came back seconds later with her Lady Robin’s roller bag in hand, a huge grin on his face.
Her heart tumbled over, like a snowball falling down a hill, gaining momentum, faster and faster. Hopefully, it wouldn’t hit the bottom and explode into nothing but powder. “I’m leaving tomorrow.”
His smile faltered for half a second, then he shrugged. “I know.”
“And you’re okay with that?”
She wasn’t sure she could say the words outright, couldn’t ask him if he was okay sleeping with her for one last night when it wouldn’t lead to anything. But how ridiculous was she? If she couldn’t hear the words out loud, then she shouldn’t be living by that philosophy.
She took a deep breath. “Are you okay with one more night of no-strings-attached sex?”
His lips quirked. “On the second day of Christmas my fuck buddy gave to me?” he said, his voice musical but gruff.
“The screw of your life, baby. Get over here.”
