[Kame's Review]: "Bound to Danger"

Bound to Danger by Katie Reus
Publisher: Signet (August 5, 2014)
Series: Deadly Ops, 2
Genre: Romantic Suspense

At a benefit dinner, community activist Maria Cervantes overhears two men plotting a terrorist attack that could rock Miami to its core. But before she can alert authorities, she’s almost killed in a massive explosion—and wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened. As the sole survivor of the attack, she is now a person of interest to the NSA—and especially to Agent Cade O’Reilly. Because Maria is the one woman Cade has never been able to forget.

Years ago, they were closer than either was willing to admit—until Cade disappeared when Maria needed him most. Now he’s sticking by her, whether she likes it or not. Because the memories locked inside her mind could hold vital clues to the next attack. Because terrorists want her dead—and because he never wants to let her go again.

Kame's Review:

A 4 1/2 - another fantastic Katie Reus Read!

Maria could not shake the stomach bug, but she had to make an appearance at an important fundraiser - her community center depends on donations. As a family friend goes to find Maria's mother, she rushed into a bathroom when the uneasy feeling returns. Before she walked out of the bathroom she overheard something she shouldn't; once the room was clear she ran out the nearest door to let someone know. That was all Maria remembers and now she opens her eyes to see the man who cut her out of his life eight years ago.

Maria is a classic girl from wealth does good character. She is caring to almost a fault. She is grounded. I like her a lot. Now Cade, well he just made me melt. He was hard to picture in my mind; the military haircut, over six feet, muscles on muscles and intricate tattoos - but when I finally wrapped my brain around it all it was fantastic! He is not sure he is worthy to love Maria but he fights his fears to just keep her safe. There is this neat thing Katie Reus did to get you to understand Maria and Cade's backstory - I loved it and it made me root for their love story even more. They have strong feelings for each other and the sizzle between them almost jumped off the page.

The plot was simple and had a short time span. I wouldn't say it was the easiest to follow - Katie Reus gives us lots of point of views for the plot and I found it sometimes confusing - but needless to say it was a heart pounding suspense at times. My words of wisdom - make sure you have uninterrupted time the last 20% of the book; I had to take my daughter somewhere and my heart raced the whole time I was driving - I stole time to sneak somewhere to finish!

As usual every character in this book is expertly crafted - even the ones you hate. I understand there are a few characters from previous books who had small parts. This is the second book in this series and I will be going back to read the first before the next installment comes out.

4 1/2 STARS!
