Secrets have a way of revealing themselves….

Right after a fire breaks out in her diner, a phone call changes Cherry Hill’s life. The tragic death of her cousin leaves Cherry sole guardian of her eight-year-old nephew. But the upper crust side of the Hill family deems her unfit and is determined to take Sam away from her. The only one on her side is the sexy sheriff, Taylor Johnson, the man who broke her heart nine years ago when he left town.

Taylor Johnson has sworn to protect the citizens of Broken Falls, but should that extend to a fake engagement to the woman who captured his heart so long ago? It doesn’t take long for his pretend feelings to turn real for both Cherry and her adorable nephew, Sam.

But Cherry’s been hiding a secret from Taylor that could rip this new family apart…

Pat's Review:

This is the second book in the Hearts of Montana Series, and as much a pleasure to read as the first.

Cherry Hill has lived all her life in Broken Falls, Montana. She was raised by her grandparents, her parents left her long ago. She was an only child, but her cousin Stacey was her best friend and the sister she never had. She nursed her grandmother through the last year of her life, her heart breaking to lose her. She inherited the diner owned by her grandparents and was determined to make them proud. It was taking all her savings, not to mention every minute of her time, and a grease fire in the kitchen was the beginning of a difficult life change. The same day, she receives a phone call that her best friend/sister Stacey and her husband were killed in a car accident, and her nephew, eight year old Sam, was hospitalized. She is the designated guardian in the will, and is overwhelmed with grief at the loss of her family, but so relived that Sam survived. She is met at the hospital by the rest of the family who feels she is worthless and are determined to take Sam away.

Taylor Johnson is the town sheriff, recently returned to Broken Falls after many years. He and Cherry were young lovers, sworn to be together forever. Until he packed up his truck and left the sleepy town for the military and a new life. He regrets that day with all his heart, and hoped returning would convince Cherry to forgive him. In a spontaneous decision, when Cherry's  family confronts her, he explains that he is her fiancĂ©  and would be taking Cherry and Sam to his home the Lazy J Ranch.  He convinces Cherry to go along with it, but soon old love becomes new love they can't deny. Cherry has a secret, one that could destroy their relationship and any hope of a future. She wants to open up, but when is there a right time?

The characters in this novel pull you into their world. I laughed, cried and enjoyed every page. If you like reading romance with a sizzle, small towns and cowboys, grab this novel.
