[Kame's Review]: "Lush"

Lush by Lauren Dane
Publisher: Berkley; (April 2, 2013)
Series: Delicious, 3
Genre: Contemporary Romance (Erotica)

USA Today bestselling author Lauren Dane delivers a second serving of sexy in her new Delicious novel, in which taste and temptation make up a sweet recipe…

Mary Whaley has her hands full running a successful catering company and overseeing her supper club. She has everything she ever wanted—or so she thought. When she meets ridiculously hot and very dirty rock star Damien Hurley at her friend’s engagement party, the attraction she feels is overpowering—and she isn’t about to deny herself.

Damien is used to a hard and fast life. He and two of his brothers started a band when they were fresh out of high school—then they hit the big time and stayed there. He’s also a legendary madman on the stage and in the bedroom. But when he meets Mary, something clicks, and the bad boy starts thinking he may have finally found something good.

What begins as a series of fleeting trysts soon gets much more complicated. Damien can’t figure out why Mary doesn’t want more from him. And before long, it’s Damien who wants more from Mary. But it turns out Mary is no stranger to celebrity news, and he’s got a very big job ahead of him: proving that he’s worth more than a one-night stand…

Kame's Review:

Mary loves food; she loves to cook and often gets kitchen envy.  She is a caterer and holds a small weekly supper club that has reservations scheduled for the next year.  As Lush opens she is catering her friend’s wedding when she meets Damien.  Damien is a sexy drummer in a successful rock band and is very good friends with the groom.  Sparks fly almost immediately, Mary is in the mood for a fling; and even though Damien has the reputation of being a manwhore, he quickly realizes Mary might make him a one woman guy.

I have read a few steamy books in my past, and a few that the general population raved about how awesome and steamy they were (one had a color in the title) and I must say this by far is the sexiest, steamiest book I have ever enjoyed.  Some books are steamy but they have really no plot and I barely believe the characters have any connection or exude emotion. Mary and Damien were steamy from the first sight and had realism, Mary did not immediately abandon all her dreams for love, and Damien did not ask her to leave everything important to her behind.  I liked Mary, my goodness, I wished I could be a member of her supper club, and Damien seemed to be a rocker with roots; both characters made me wish I could meet them in real life and call them friends.  The romantic scenes at times made me blush (don’t all good ones do that) and I was thankful I was reading in private.  Lush is categorized as Erotica and that is exactly where I would place it on a shelf, lots of steamy sex, more than you would normally have in a contemporary romance, and plenty of variances in positions, locations and initiators.

This book is part of a series, and I have not read the previous books, which made the first chapters harder for me to follow as characters were coming and going with little explanation of their relationship and role to the story and each other. Once I figured out who was with who the story was much easier to follow.  The little background I read on these characters intrigued me and I am planning on investigating the stories Lauren Dane wrote for them.

I have read all of Lauren Dane’s Chase Brothers/Petal contemporary romances and loved them.  I love here writing style and there is always a quote or two that just defines the book for me. Since I love to cook I decided to try Lush and I was not disappointed – if you like your romances on the steamy side download it today.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.

Ahhh okay I'll have to give this one another go. I tried reading it last week and by 50 pages in still wasn't really feeling it. But you do make it sound good :) I'll have to grab it up again and see if maybe it was just my mood that day, ya know?

Great review Kame!

Anna - have you read the others - that might have something to do with it - if you can't figure out who is who it gets confusing. But I agree sometimes you head is ready for a book and you need what a friend and I call a book palate cleanser - reread something you love, or read something so far different from this and then try it again. Thank you for stopping by....

Pat - I loved the chef side of it...and it is VERY steamy - I got it off NetGalley as I hadn't tried any of Lauren Dane's steamy before...I love her Petal and Chase Brother series so I decided to give it a try. It is pricier so maybe see if you can borrow it from someone if you want.

Nope it was the first one but still just isn't drawing me in and I'm usually fine starting mid series. I have the characters straight just not really moved by them I guess. I'm gonna try a different one of hers at some point because really so many people I know rave about her. I think maybe this one just wasn't for me for some reason.

Please email me at KameBookReview@gmail.com to let me know what you think of the Chase men...I will say the series is awesome and they get BETTER!

Oh I know! Isn't it fantastic there are so many options out there? Hmmm her Chase Brothers sound right up my alley. I love those hunky southern boys. And I'm always up for giving an author another try. Sometimes one series just isn't for you but another of theirs is an all time favorite :) I'll add the CB ones to my shopping list! Thanks Kame!

That is what is great about books - there are so many for us all to try. But if you haven't tried Lauren Dane before she writes in many different subgenres...I adore the Chase Brother series - they are hunky southern boys!
