[Musing Maddie's Review]: "Stripped"

Stripped by Jasinda Wilder
Publisher: Jasinda Wilder (August 16, 2013)
Genre: New Adult Contemporary

So how did I get myself into this situation, you ask? Simple: desperation. When you're faced with being homeless and hungry or taking off your clothes for money, the choice is easier than you'd imagine. That doesn't make it easy, though. Oh no. I hate it, in fact. There's nothing I'd like more than to quit and never go into another bar again, never hear the techno beat pulsing in my ears again, never feel the lecherous gazes of horny men again.

Then, one day, I meet a man. He's in my club, front and center. He watches me do my routine, and his gaze is full of hunger. Not the kind of desire I'm used to though. It's something different. Something hotter, deeper, and more possessive. I know who he is; of course I do. Everyone knows who Dawson Kellor is. He's People Magazine's Sexiest Man alive. He's the hottest actor in Hollywood. He's the man hand-picked for the role of Rhett Butler in the long-awaited remake of Gone With the Wind.

He's the kind of man who can have any woman in the entire world with a mere crook of his finger. So what's he doing looking at me like he has to have me? And how do I resist him when he looks at me with those intoxicating, changeable, quicksilver eyes?

I'm a virgin, and he's an American icon of male sexuality. I'm a stripper, and he's a man used to getting anything and everything he wants. And he wants me. I know I should say no, I know he's the worst kind of player…but what my mind knows, my body and my heart may not.

And then things get complicated.

Musing Maddie's Review:

Jasinda Wilder has once again impressed me with her writing ability. Stripped will not be what you expect. She doesn't follow the standard formula, so be prepared to be surprised by how it moves, and what eventuates.

The story spanned across a number of years, and was narrated by naive, sheltered and insecure, Grey Amundsen. This was her story; her story of sufferance, desire to be heard, loss, shame, fulfillment and love. It was intense, moving, captivating and mostly, a really sweet, light romance. I thought it was stunning.

One chapter in particular had me riveted. It was possibly one of the best chapters I have ever read. It's depth, the time dedicated to slowly deconstruct every emotion, every thought, every movement, was incredible. Wilder created this sensual, beautiful section of writing, which wasn't just a long-winded a sex scene, it was a love scene. Pure. Beautiful. Exotic. Scintillating. Raw. Passionate.

I said it was Grey's story, but in effect, it was Dawson's too. He had suffered much loss over the years. Loss of love, loss of a sense of self, loss of dignity. In the world's eyes, he had it all. Wealth, looks, fame, flashy cars. But on the inside, he was empty, hollow and alone. In Grey, he found hope. But he had to fight to keep it. Fight to keep her.

Although you may see Stripped as another Cinderella story, it was the writing that will capture your heart. It was cleverly written in first person, present tense; an interesting choice when moving through a few years of story. The characters were unpacked nicely, and allowed to develop throughout the story. Supporting characters lent little to the storyline, but that didn't negate their purpose. There was a beautiful innocence to Grey, which was articulated with great care. A sensual experience all round.

If you are a fan of Jasinda Wilder, you will love Stripped. If you love sweet romance, you will equally enjoy it. If you love to be immersed in sensual, sizzling sex scenes, you will be completely satisfied (and getting your fan out in sections as well). You might cry, cringe, moan and sigh, but you will do so completely engrossed and delighted.

4 STARS!

Meet Musing Maddie:

Musing Maddie is an avid reader, who mainly devours all things romance. She loves series, but only when the story warrants a few books rather than one. A strong, intelligent female with a bit of sass and wit is the preferred heroine in the books she reads, and some sizzle between the sheets is welcome too. Well, ok...more than welcome! Well, not just between the sheets is just fine too! She’s from Down Under, so her humor is on the crazy side. Captivating storylines, with well developed plot and yes, hot, hunky Heroes, is definitely a preference, but she loves it when the characters are damaged, and their story brings hope and restoration. Yes please to HEAs!
