[Kame's Review]: "Chance of Rain"

Chance of Rain by Amber Lin
Publisher: Carina Press (November 4, 2013)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

The only things Natalie Bouchard wants to change are the weekly specials in her Gram's diner. So when her high school sweetheart strolls back into Dearling, Texas, she allows herself to indulge in a little flirtation, but that's as far as it goes.

Navy SEAL Sawyer Nolan has returned to sell his father's land and get the hell out, no matter how enticing he still finds Natalie. Until a storm rolls over the Texas hills, stranding them together at the farm…and the memories of their steamy past lead to a reunion filled with hot days and long nights.

Soon Natalie's so far under Sawyer's skin he can't imagine being without her. But he has a lot of history in Dearling he'd like to leave behind, and Natalie is practically married to this town. If Sawyer wants to be more than just another person who leaves Natalie, he'll have to give his hometown—and himself—one more chance.

Kame's Review:

Sawyer left his small hometown behind, not bothering to really say goodbye to the only one who took residence in his heart. He has come back to get his father's house ready to sell and get out of town again, but he sees Natalie and all those feelings that were buried come back. Natalie lived in a small town her whole life. She took care of most of the people in that town at her Grandmother’s diner. It was important to her to keep something that her Grandmother loved close to her, so she didn’t change a thing. It was on one of those days where she had been up since four o’clock that he walked in. Sawyer Nolan, she never thought she would see him again.

Many books on SEALs have them joining some rescue mission and finding a way to still be involved in the action. This one has a SEAL come home to a small town and try to turn around the family farm. To me it is a fresh angle for a plot and I really enjoyed it. Many military personnel return home with emotional scares, Sawyer was one who arrived on his first day of boot camp with them.  He is a hero that I grew to love the more his character that was revealed to me. Natalie was a small town girl in a holding pattern. She seemed to be in one when she met Sawyer in High School, ventured out some during their time together, but went into that holding pattern again when he left town suddenly.   Natalie has great love for those close to her, but she doesn’t feel a part of what she wants so much – a family. Natalie and Sawyer must each resolve their individual destiny before they can think of a common future.

This book is filled with great characters and a true small town.  I see lots of potential for future stories and I look forward to reading more about Dearling.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.
