[Double Review]: "Weston"

Today both Kame and Pat are reviewing WESTON. I hope you enjoy their double review! :)

Weston by Debra Kayn
Publisher: Forever Yours (January 7, 2014)
Series: Hard Body, 2
Genre: Romantic Suspense

She's on thin ice.

Detective Rocki Bangli has spent the past four months undercover, trying to get the goods on drug lord Darrell Archer. Now that she's gained Darrell's trust, he's given her a job: keep an eye on the Beaumont Body Shop, a car detailer and private investigation agency. There's only one problem-her target is the hot and very sexy Tony Weston, whose eyes tell her he's on to her game . . .

He's her only hope.

Tony spotted the gorgeous detective a year ago at the police academy and never forgot her. A thousand fantasies later, he finds Rocki working for the most dangerous man in town. Now, Tony's determined to find out what's going on . . . after he brings her home with him. But when her position is compromised, suddenly Rocki and everyone she loves might be in danger. Now Rocki must trust Tony with her secrets, her mission, and her life-or it could be the end for both of them

Archer (#1) -- Kame

Kame's Review:

Rocki Bangli is undercover in Darrell Archer’s operation.  She knows she is close to getting what she needs to put him away a long time. Darrell charges her with getting close to members of Beaumont Body Shop, a car detailer and private investigation agency. She meets Tony Weston while playing pool and feels like she is home free. What she doesn’t realize is that Tony recognizes her from the police academy.  Rocki has been in his dreams since that day he saw her the first time, he doesn’t care that she must be on an undercover assignment; he isn’t going to let her get away.

Rocki is used to being along and trying to keep those she cares about safe. The months undercover have been hard but she sees it as a necessary evil to her goal of becoming lead detective. The stress is heavy on her, and it made me smile that she who she was able to let her guard down with was Tony’s dog. Once Tony and the guys from Beaumont Body Shop decided they needed to protect Rocki she sort of took a step back and let them call the shots; she sort of lost some of her spunk. Tony is like the other guys from the agency; he is an alpha but has such the sweet tendencies. He lost his heart to Rocki long before she ever met him; which was evidenced by the fact that he got very upset anytime she called him by his lastname.

This book was extremely fast paced, and at times I had to reread a few pages when I picked the book back up; so I read in large blocks of time. We get to see characters we met during the first book, Archer, but there is some backstory given if you are reading this as a standalone.   The plot is separate from the first book in the series, but does continue some storylines from that book – which will be continued in the third book in the series.  I have a guess at the main character of the series but I have seen nothing confirmed on Debra Kayn’s website. It doesn’t matter, I am a Beaumount Body Shop and private investigation series fan.  I will read them all.

Meet Kame:

Kame is part of a family of readers; one day she picked up the Nook she purchased for her husband and discovered her love of e-books. A few months later he purchased one for her so he could have his back! Kame’s Nook is never far, and she is hard pressed to pick a favorite book, genre or author. As long as there are characters that make her want to sit down and have a chat and a plot keeps the pages turning, she’ll read it.

Pat's Review:

This is the second novel in the Hard Body Series. It continues with the men of Beaumont Body Shop, who are private investigators as well as car mechanics.  Their usual Thursday night pool game at Corner Pocket is being disrupted by a beautiful young woman who has grabbed their favorite table. The last time these men saw her, she was in the company of Darrel Archer, Kage's gangster uncle.  Janie, Kage's woman wants her thrown out. Tony Weston intervenes, and starts a game of pool with her.  He recognizes this woman as a police officer he knew at the Academy. Her name is Rocki Bangli, and suspects she is undercover and he is making it his business to find out her story.

Rocki is hating this undercover job, and just wants Darrell Archer in prison. She didn't understand his sudden push for her to play pool, until she encounters Tony Weston, and the rest of the men from the body shop.  Darrell wants information about Kage, and he expects her to sleep with one of these men to get the information.  She has a personal rule of no sex undercover, but Tony is making it hard to keep that rule. He  has been attracted to her since the academy, and is very willing and able to persuade her to sleep with him. But, "She told more lies than a six year old caught peeing in the backyard." Tony needs to know more.    Rocki loves his 200 pound St. Bernard, named Brute, so that's a start.

Their are secrets, lies and a lot of twists to this story. Tony is bound and determined to help Rocki bring Darrell down, and keep her safe. A person they both rely on is not what he seems, and causes further danger.

It's very enjoyable to get another look at Bay City, Oregon and the Hard Body men. Highly anticipating the next in the series.
