[Kame's ARC Review]: "Hold On Tight"

Hold On Tight by Serena Bell
Publisher: Loveswept (June 17, 2014)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

In Serena Bell’s heartwarming novel, a young mother and a battle-scarred veteran must decide if they can rekindle the sparks they once shared.

Fighting for his country gave Jake Taylor’s life shape and meaning. Now as an injured war hero he struggles to find purpose, until he runs into the gorgeous woman he dated briefly—and disastrously—before being deployed eight years ago. Turns out Jake doesn’t just need to figure out how to be a civilian . . . he also needs to learn how to be a dad.

Eighteen, pregnant, and totally lost, Mira Shipley couldn’t track down the soldier who fathered her child, so she put college on hold and focused on making a good life for her son. Now she’s determined to be something more than Sam’s mom, her parents’ daughter, or Jake’s girl—as hot as she finds her old flame’s take-charge attitude in and out of bed. Soon Mira and Jake realize that their passion didn’t disappear when Sam was conceived—and that instead of running away, sometimes it’s better to hold on tight.

Kame's Review:

Mira and Jake met while Jake was home on leave from the Army. They dated for a few weeks, but ended the relationship before Jake deployed, each moving on with their life. Jake continued with the military, and Mira ultimately moved away. Eight years later they meet up in a physical therapy office; Jake is an above the knee amputee and Mira is there with her son.

Mira is a great character; I want her for a friend. She was written beautifully. Mira is a single Mom who is desperately trying to do the best she can, she wants to be independent but knows she does need to ask for help at times. Her patience with Jake was great. Jakes goes through many emotions in this book and I enjoyed that it wasn’t a miraculous transformation but took time during the plot.  His transformation kept me reading. Many times you read a book with a character who has a prosthetic and it is mentioned but that is said. In this book Serena Bell has Jake deal with the frustration of getting used to his new life; and even how they as a couple must adjust.

I really LOVED this book. I was in a way sorry to see it end - but very satisfied with the ending. Honestly I want there to be another book that has Jake and Mira as secondary characters so I can check up on them.

First book I have ever read by this author and it won't be my last!
