[Pat's Review]: "Vision of Darkness"

Vision of Darkness by Tonya Burrows
Publisher: Tonya Burrows; 1 edition (December 1, 2014)
Series: D.I.E. Squadron, 1
Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense

A beacon of light...

Undercover DEA agent Alex Brennan doesn’t believe in the paranormal, despite the exhausting nightmares that reveal things he shouldn’t know. When sleep deprivation causes him to make a horrible mistake on the job, he is driven to find answers. Dreams guide him to a lighthouse in Three Churches, Maine, where he finds an inexplicable and comforting familiarity in the arms of the lighthouse’s beautiful keeper, Pru Maddox.

A whisper of memory…

Deadly misfortune has long plagued Pru’s family, the result of a curse “The Green Lady” placed on the lighthouse. Skeptical, Alex searches for less ghostly explanations, though he can’t deny that the town has had more than its fair share of disappearances, suicides, and accidents. As their passion simmers, Alex digs deeper, and his dreams turn violent, frightening, and very real.

A vision of darkness...

To keep Pru safe, Alex must embrace his abilities and unravel the lighthouse’s mystery. Except someone—or something—wants the past to stay buried...and will do anything to keep it that way

Pat's  Review:

This was a trip to Three Churches, Maine where strange things occur, and people are disappearing and at times it's downright terrifying. On the surface it seems like an ordinary small town, but it has secrets.

Pru Maddox has returned to Three Churches after a near death experience and leaving her cheating husband.  Pru has taken it upon herself to rejuvenate the local lighthouse and home to make into a B & B. It has a reputation for being haunted, but so far it's been noises, footsteps and scaring Pru's dog Triton. She grew up in Three Churches so it's a coming home experience for her.  Her Grandma Mae is her only living relative and where she is so is Pru.

Alex Brennan is a DEA operative on "vacation."  He's pretty sure he's not going back. He was a sniper for Special Ops in the military with a ruined knee and lots of nightmares to show for it. He got in his car in Boston and wound his way through New England till he was tired and hungry and in Three Churches. In the local diner he meets Pru, lust and protective feelings take over. His military buds tell him he has premonitions,  all he know is his gut feelings are hardly ever wrong.

There are a great many characters involved in this story, all with their own little quirks. Alex's military buddies are still looking out for him, some alive and some dead. Several times Alex is asked whether he believes in ghosts, he always answers no. But forces are out to change his mind.  This is the first paranormal novel I've read by Ms. Burrows and I hope the next comes out soon. There is not a cliffhanger ending per se,  but a compelling reason to read the next!  Paranormal, romance and suspense make this a fascinating read.

4 STARS!

I had a really good time reading this one too and not knowing all the answers plus the atmosphere of this one. Yeah, that ending scene has me so eager for the next installment. Whew!
