[Pat's Review]: "Daring the Player"

Daring the Player by Robin Covington
Publisher: Kindle Worlds (January 19, 2015)
Genre: Contemporary Romance

She’s nothing but trouble…and he can’t resist.

Raised by a pro football legend, Miami Thunder wide receiver Rep Grissom has a career most would envy. A toxic marriage with a party girl almost put him on the sidelines, but now he keeps his head down and makes the moves on the field that leave younger players in his dust. Now all he has to do is maintain the status quo and he’s guaranteed a lucrative new contract at an age when most guys are retiring.

Lola Corbin is used to leaving all the big boys in her rearview mirror. The lead singer in the worlds biggest rock band she fills up arenas and closes down the clubs but with the group on the brink of breaking apart her future is uncertain. Years spent on the road has left her with nothing at home except platinum records on the walls, an empty fridge and a cold bed. For the first time, she’s looking for something and someone beyond the spotlight.

When Lola’s first night in her condo ends with Rep breaking up a fight he realizes that temptation has moved in next door. Lola doesn’t usually go for the strong and serious types, but the more she sees of her neighbor, the more she wants. When a thank you dinner turns into dancing and a hot tryst in the back of the club their attraction cannot be denied. But when Lola-induced trouble results in a front-page-career-ending spectacle the player must decide if he’s going to be as daring with his heart as he is on the field.

Pat's Review:

Peter "Rep"Grissom is a wide receiver for the Miami Thunder, as was his Dad before him.  He had a rough season a couple years ago when his marriage went up in a very public burst of flames. Rep is getting ready to sign what he thinks will be his last contract with the Thunder before he retires and his agent has warned him not to screw up.

Lola Corbin is a beautiful rock star with a much loved band called Tangled Royal. She's been rocking since she was a teenager and is ready to try something different. Most of the band members agree it's time. Except for one....Milo, her best friend is deep into drugs and alcohol. He can't seem to quit, he has severe anger issues, and dangerously threw a glass vase at Lola's face because she flushed his drugs. To the rescue comes her new neighbor, Rep. All he sees is Lola bleeding, and takes over. After the situation is handled he suddenly realized a very sexy, gorgeous rock star is not good for him, or keeping his job.  As much as he tries to avoid her, she sneaks into his heart and under his skin. An event that turns into a media circus threatens Rep's contract, and is in danger of tearing he and Lola apart.

As always Ms. Covington has down to earth likable characters. Rep and Lola are perfect for each other, if they could only keep the world out.  I found this story very entertaining and it can be read as a stand alone, but fits very well in the Dare World Series.

Never heard of this one but I like the blurb - and your review ;) And for once, a woman is a rock singer, not one hot player guy, yay !

Thanks Red, it was a fun read and the rock star heroine is awesome!

That grabbed my attention, too -- it's rare sometimes to find the heroine as the singer, especially as a rock star. :)
