[Pat's Review]: "Hold Me"

Hold Me by Susan Mallery
Publisher: HQN Books (April 28, 2015)
Series: Fool's Gold, 16
Genre: Contemporary Romance

New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery's classic blend of lighthearted humor and intense emotional conflict works its magic on two newcomers to the California town of Fool's Gold, which Library Journal calls "a setting so real and appealing readers will want to start scoping out real estate."

Destiny Mills believes passion has its place—like in the lyrics of the country songs that made her parents famous. After a childhood full of drama and heartache, she wants a life that's calm. Safe. Everything that Kipling Gilmore isn't. Her temporary assignment with the Fool's Gold search and rescue team puts her in delicious proximity to the former world-class skier every day. Part of her aches to let go for once…the rest is terrified what'll happen if she does.

Though an accident ended his career, Kipling still lives for thrills—and a hot fling with a gorgeous redhead like Destiny would be a welcome diversion. Yet beneath his new coworker's cool facade is a woman who needs more than he's ever given. With her, he's ready to take the risk. But love, like skiing, is all about trust—and before you soar, you have to be willing to fall.

Pat's Review:

Destiny Mills works for a software company training search and rescue teams to use their system. She travels a lot, but enjoys it and is quick to make friends for the three months she is typically in one place. She's not found a place that pulls her to settle down yet. Fool's Fold is a nice little town, but she's warned early that "everybody know's everybody's business." Her parents were country music stars, and habitually falling in love and marrying. Destiny was raised by her grandmother, and learned very early to stay out of the limelight. She loved to sing, but didn't want the hassle of the notoriety.  Just before arriving in Fool's Gold, Destiny learned she had a fifteen year old half-sister whose mother has died and their father is in Europe.  Destiny is shocked but willing to give her a home for the summer.

Kipling Gilmore is an Olympic skier known by the nickname G-Force. One year ago, he was nearly killed in a devastating accident on the slopes. Mayor Marsha convinced him that Fool's Gold needed him, especially since his sister Shelby was there.  He's recovered and is now heading up the search and rescue team called HERO ( Help Emergency Rescue Operations.)  He's settling in, made some friends and likes the pace.  He and Destiny fall into an easy friendship, although Kipling is having some stirrings of attraction.

Meanwhile Destiny becomes one of the regulars of Jo's bar, and meets the wives and women of Fool's Gold.  Starr, her sister is going through some team age angst and Destiny is not sure what to do. She enjoys being with Kipling a lot more than she expected, and is trying very hard not to fall for him.

We reconnect with all the friends in Fool's Gold. Lots of pregnancies, and a little bit of men vs. women fighting for their own territory. As always a very enjoyable romance filled with laughter and love.

4 STARS!

Thanks for the review! I read the 1st 3 years of Fools Gold books & have gotten behind! I have to say I loved the first book, Chasing Perfect, which I have read a few times. I also really liked the Lone Star Sisters series and the Marcelli series. I also remember reading the Million Dollar Catch series a long time ago & that they were very hot!

Awesome review! I love Fool's Gold - I haven't fully caught up either but I like being able to get all 3 books in each trilogy and read them together. Looking forward to Destiny and Kipling's story. I think my favorite book of hers would either be Summer Nights (Shane & Annabelle's story) or Hot On Her Heels from the Lone Star Sisters series.
