A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and we will share our brief thoughts on books that we read during the previous week but will not be reviewing.
August 30th - September 5th:

-- Running with Scissors by L.A. Witt
I honestly don't have much to say about this book, good or bad. It was very sexy. A decent read, though I can't say that very much of the story stood out for me whenever I put the book down (which was more often than usual.) 3 Stars

-- Unsaid by Avery Aster --
I must admit, Aster's writing has its outlandishly funny moments, full of bawdy humor and sex jokes. Overall, it won't work for everyone, and I think I'm part of the "not for me" audience. It's not that I disliked the book, but rather I didn't feel a strong connection to these characters (any of them, not just the couple in this book). I think that's just me, as I know of many other readers who love this series. And that's fine! :)
This one in particular wasn't always my cup of tea, as it included some fairly intense BDSM. Now I've read BDSM before, and the thing I've realized is if I care about the characters, I can, at least fictionally, get into the BDSM aspect, even when it goes down roads I'm not fond of. But when I don't have that connection to the couple, those roads are not as pleasant for me. That was the case here. Again, that's just personal taste.
This is the second book of hers I have read and, as Aster already knows, I joke at some of the lines and scenes in the books, but it's all in good fun. In the end though, I just have to finally admit that perhaps I'm not the right audience. And that's okay.
If you like a lot of drama and sex jokes and a peek into the glamorous lifestyle of the uber rich in NYC, then Aster's books may very well work for you. 2 1/2 Stars

-- Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas --
I've always been a fan of Kleypas's historicals, but I finally decided to try her contemporary series. I didn't start with book 1, as many told me it was a bit slow and I could easily go back later.
At first, I wasn't sure about the narrator. Her narration seemed so dramatic. But after a few chapters, I started to get into it and realized that, yes, this narrator does put a lot into her performance, rather than just reading the book out loud.
The story was good. I was so very angry at how Haven was treated by her asshole of an ex, as well as her boss later on, but I feel like Kleypas handled both situations well. Abuse happens, both in a relationship and verbally in a work setting.
I'll be back for the rest of this series, probably on audiobook as well. 4 Stars
