Whatcha Reading? (51)

A new Saturday post where you can share with us what you are currently (or just finished) reading and I will share my brief thoughts on books that I read during the previous week.

June 12th - 18th:

TBQ:

-- The Friend Zone by Kristen Callihan -- *reread*

Just as fantastic the second time around. I don't think I can pick a favorite in this series; all three books are perfect (at least for me) and I love them so much I can't even explain it without reverting to complete fangirl squeeing. Another Callihan book with a shit-ton of quotes and passages highlighted, which I'm not complaining about at all. :)

I loved revisiting Gray and Ivy, loved taking the time to relax and enjoy a reread for a few days -- especially since I was doing this during the time of the Orlando attack, when I really fucking needed an escape. I'll be diving back into Dex's book in the next week or so to round out this series reread. 5 STARS

-- Bad Bitch by Christina Saunders --

I’m not sure what I was expecting with Bad Bitch, but what I ultimately got wasn’t quite what I thought. Which isn’t completely a bad thing; I liked the book well enough, though I don’t believe I’ll be rereading it at any point.

This was a quick read, it had its hot moments, and while I can’t say that it left me speechless, it didn’t exactly leave a bad taste in my mouth, either. It just . . . was. I’m still not sold on the cover or the title though. I'll be doing a review of all three books (one post) on June 27th3 STARS

-- Hardass by Christina Saunders --

Another sexy read from Saunders. I liked Hardass better than Bad Bitch; I’d give this one closer to 3 ½ stars rather than 3 stars. There’s a good deal of suspense and mystery as Caroline and Wash attempt to figure out who the Bayou Butcher is, and that kept my interest, perhaps even more so than the romance at times. I'll be doing a review of all three books (one post) on June 27th3 1/2 STARS

-- Dirty by Kylie Scott -- [audiobook]

This was such a treat to listen to. I very much enjoyed Scott's previous series (Stage Dive) but for some reason didn't grab this one when it released in April. I'm so glad that I grabbed it on audio because I had such a great time listening to it on my walks. The narrator, Andi Arndt, has done all of Scott's books, and she does a great job; Dirty is no exception.

It starts off with a bang, and the sweetness and sexiness continues throughout, as well as the fun. I can't tell you how many times I found myself smiling while walking around the neighborhood, or even snorting out loud, all thanks to Lydia and Vaughan's story. This was so very hot, but also sweet as these two had a very fast, but yet still realistic, connection. I will admit the particular HEA ending Scott went with seemed more than bit rushed; I would have been happy with them simply agreeing to a real relationship, maybe even moving in together, rather than the jump to discussing marriage after only knowing each other for a little over a week. It's hard to explain but in that short time, they did have a strong connection, and I could believe the friendship and budding relationship; the rush to marriage wasn't as neat of a fit though. But other than that small quibble, I have no other complaints about this book. It was, simply put, entertaining and fun and just what I needed. I can't wait for the rest of the series! 4 1/2 STARS

Favorite quote:

“When women read romance books, one of two things generally happen.” Mal ran a hand through his lovely locks. “They either want to discuss the book in great depth. And probably, life and your relationship. Now sometimes that’s okay. You reach a higher level of understanding with each other and shit. But sometimes it sucks, pure and simple. You wind up getting bitched at for days because of something the dude in the book did that makes you look bad. But if it’s an awesome book, however, a hot one? Well then … kinky fuckery like you wouldn’t believe, man. The ideas Pumpkin has gotten out of some of those books. Gold. I could never have talked her into trying half of that stuff.”

“Trust me, never mock a romance book,” said Mal with all the zest of a manic street preacher. “You have no idea the amount of good they can do for you between the sheets and on the streets. If you love your girl? Buy her books.”

-- Total D*ck by Christina Saunders --

Much like 1 and 2, Total D*ck was a quick read and the story flowed easily. It’s extremely hot. It also has some fun moments in it. I liked it more than book 1, and about as much as book 2. Overall, glad I took a chance on this series. I'll be doing a review of all three books (one post) on June 27th. 3 - 3 1/2 Stars
