[Pat's Review]: "Rookie Move"

Rookie Move by Sarina Bowen
Publisher: Berkley (September 6, 2016)
Series: Brooklyn Bruisers, 1
Genre: Contemporary Romance

The first novel in a sexy new series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....

Pat's Review:

This is the first novel in what looks to be a very exciting series. The Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team is starting to make its mark. With a new coach and some promising rookies, their hopes are high. Their internet billionaire owner is counting on it.

Georgia Worthington is the senior publicist and acting PR director for the team. She is hoping to prove that she can easily handle being "THE"  PR director if given a chance. There is about to be a news conference introducing the new coach to the press. What is adding to her stress is the fact that the new coach is her dad....Karl. Even worse, if that's possible, she just found out one of the new rookies is Leopold "Leo" Trevi who just happened to be the guy she was madly in love with in high school. They had a lot of plans together, but after a trauma Georgia just couldn't get past, she walked away from him. That was five years ago and a lot has happened, except her reaction to seeing him was not casual.

Leo Trevi, the promising -- at least to the owner -- rookie is still reeling from his call yesterday to a pro team. His excitement has faltered since the coach's announcement, and now he sees the woman who walked away from him years ago, and he never really knew why. So here he is facing new teammates, a coach who used to be his mentor and now won't look him in the eye, and the woman he never stopped loving. This may be a very short trip in the majors.

Really enjoyed all the characters, especially Georgia's roommate, Becca. She is a riot. The second chance romance is slow in building, which I enjoyed. There is plenty of excitement, tension and of course some sizzling moments. A great read. Looking forward to the next in the series.
