Victoria Woodley is done with men. Fresh off a dating nightmare, she flies from her home in Chicago to Scarlet Springs to take part in her best friend’s wedding. Who picks her up at the airport? Eric Hawke. Of course. She made a fool of herself over him last time she was here. He’s cocky, charming, and sexy as sin. But the fact that she’s attracted to him is all the proof she needs that he’s bad news. She would ignore him if she could. But he’s the best man, and she’s the maid of honor. She can’t just tell him to jump in a lake—especially not when her lips are locked with his.
Eric isn’t looking for a relationship. Between running the firehouse and volunteering for the county’s search and rescue team, he has enough on his plate. He doesn’t need to get tangled up with a woman from the big city, especially one whose idea of roughing it is going without designer coffee. Yet from the moment he looks into Victoria’s big brown eyes, the attraction he feels is too strong to deny. Faster than he can imagine, the spark of desire that has smoldered between them since the first day they met will flare into full-blown passion.
But can Eric convince Victoria to set aside her doubts and trust him with her heart before their time together runs out?

Pat's Review:
From the cover to the last page, this story is hot, funny, and exciting. The men and women of the Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue Team and the firefighters of Scarlet Springs Fire Department will pull you into their world and not let you go.
Eric Hawke and Vic (Victoria) Woodley met at the end of Barely Breathing, the first book of this series. It was not a friendly meeting and they tended to snipe at each other. One year later and Eric is picking Vic up from the airport again for a very happy reason: Lexi Jewell and Austin Taylor's wedding. Eric and Vic are part of the wedding party and looking forward to all the festivities, but are still a little rocky around each other. Maybe it's the sizzle of attraction between them that they are both denying?
Victoria is drowning in a new project at work in Chicago that she is thrilled to be getting away from. The problem is her boss is driving her crazy with emails and phone calls, despite the fact she is on vacation! Lexi and Austin have planned a week of fun and friends, culminating with their wedding. Victoria is staying at Fresh Creek Inn, Lexi's family's B & B, in their best suite and she is determined to enjoy every minute, in spite of her boss. She and Eric are thrown together quite a bit and the sizzle is gaining strength. Eric is concerned that his erratic life as a fire fighter and S & R team member will push Victoria away. Each day that passes, Victoria realizes she doesn't really enjoy her job and loves Scarlet Springs, not to mention the fact that Eric is there.
This story can be read as a stand alone, but Lexi and Austin's story should not be missed. Reading the rescue and fire fighting efforts gave me a new perspective on these brave men and women. This is a contemporary romance novel with a hint of intrigue and danger. The love story is perfect and very sexy, and all the characters, especially Bear, add to this wonderful story. Can't wait to see what's next.
