Some crushes aren’t meant to be

When her older brother’s best friend left to join the Foreign Legion, eighteen-year-old Célie moved on to make a life for herself as a Paris chocolatier. Now, five years later, the last thing she needs is another man to mess up her happiness.

Let alone the same man.

But five years in the Foreign Legion is a long time for a man to grow up, and a long time to be away from the woman he loves.

Especially when he did it all for her.

Half strangers, more than friends, and maybe, if Joss Castel has his way, a second chance…

Pat's Review:

Laura Florand writes very romantic love stories often set in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Paris. Her descriptions of the sights and sounds draw you in and make you feel you are there. This novel is no exception, but, you might want to read this close to a source of chocolate!

Celie grew up in a small town called Les Tarterets, that is infamous for drug dealers, users and heartache. She worked in a pastry shop as a teen, and had a huge crush on her brothers friend Joss. He treated her like a little sister and protected her from the danger in the streets, and even her own brother, who was arrested for drug dealing. Then after walking her home after work, he said goodnight, and the next morning he was gone. Not just gone, he joined the French Foreign Legion. Now, five years later she is the Chef Chocolatier for Dom Richard in Paris. She has won many awards, and she feels liking working in the shop is like "working in heaven." She has made something of her life, all on her own. Not a day goes by that she doesn't think of Josh, where he is, or if he's alive. Then one day, he is there. Waiting outside the shop.

Josh regrets having to leave Celie five years ago, but she was only eighteen, he was a man, although a poor excuse for one as far as he was concerned. He went away, risked his life, became a hardened Legionnaire finished his commitment, and was done. He came back for Celie, hoping to prove he is worth her love now.  But Celie can't forget his leaving without a word, sent him cards for six months and he never wrote back. This relationship is not going to be easy, although they are widely attracted to each other. Stubbornness, lack of true communication and Celie's need for independence threaten both their hope and dreams.

This is such a delightful story, and including Dom Richard and his fiancé Jamie Corey (The Chocolate Touch) makes it even more fun. As I said at the start, keep chocolate nearby, your going to need it.
