Unlucky in Love by Maggie McGinnis
Publisher: Loveswept (October 11, 2016)
Series: Whisper Creek, 4
Genre: Contemporary Romance

From the author of Once Upon a Cowboy (“Sexy, charming, and perfectly heartwarming.”—Lauren Layne) comes another sweet novel of the Whisper Creek Ranch, where sizzling Montana men melt the most stubborn hearts.

After Alexis Maguire’s wedding day comes and goes without a groom, she decides that it’s time for a change. Tired of being the dependable, steady—and apparently boring—one, Alexis hopes that a cross-country road trip will help her loosen up and find her inner sparkle. Her first stop is the Whisper Creek Ranch, where the hot wranglers are sure to bring out her inner party girl. The trouble is, she can’t stand pretending to be someone she’s not—especially around the cowboy who tempts her to stay put.

Gunnar Peterson has spent six months working at Whisper Creek, and he’s never been happier. Having grown up an army brat, he’s ready to put down roots, and the only thing missing is a woman to share his life with. When Alexis blows into town, Gunnar thinks he may have met his match, despite the wild-child facade he sees right through. But Alexis swears she won’t settle down anytime soon—so it’s up to Gunnar to convince her that what she’s looking for . . . is right here.

Pat's Review:

If you're looking for a sweet, romantic love story, I highly recommend all the novels in the Whisper Creek Series. Unlucky in Love made me laugh, sigh and try to figure a way to get to Whisper Creek Ranch.

Alexis Maguire needs a big change. Her engagement was called off by her ex two weeks before the wedding. She lives in the same town she grew up in, works as a school nurse in the elementary school she attended herself, and lives a mile from her very needy mother. Signing up to be a travel nurse seemed a good idea. She is being coached by her younger sister, who is all in for a change for her. "You will leave behind boring, plain-Jane Alexis, and you embrace sparkling exciting Lexie." If, in the process she happens to show her ex what's he's missing?  Excellent.

Gunnar Peterson is finally doing what he loves, where he loves doing it. He is a horse trainer on his best friend's family ranch, and they accept him as one of their own. Even if he has to put up with the calendar promoting the sexy cowboys who work there. Gunnar is unhappily Mr. July. He is responsible for picking up Lexie, the new ranch nurse, and is pleasantly surprised when she arrives. Seems shy and flustered, but very attractive. Lexie feels her mouth hanging open at the sight of Gunnar. Now that is a cowboy!

Lexie is there for eight weeks, she and Gunnar become friends, with a little sizzle on the side. She watches him one early morning working with a horse, and she's a goner. Gunnar watches her trying to get on a horse, knowing by looking at her she's terrified, and he knows he's falling fast. But it seems Lexie's unlucky in love curse lives on.

This can be read as a stand alone, but the series is so delightful I would recommend starting with book one.
